Francis of Assisi Parish in Naga, Cebu is the third daughter parish of San Nicolas Parish in Cebu City. She has her own daughter parishes namely: Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Brgy. Tuyan and in Inayagan with same parish name, San Roque Parish in Brgy. Augustine de Hippo Parish in Brgy. Based on history, the church building was constructed after a couple of years from the establishment of St. Francis of Assisi Parish which was completed in 1852 (as engraved on one of the old church bells). The parish was then elevated into a shrine, the "Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi" (ASSFA), transitus of which was done on October 3, 2007 with the patron saint's statue installed and consecrated on October 10 in that same year. With GOD's blessings, ASSFA underwent transformations owing it to the strong stewardship of the vicars, the faith and benevolence of the Nagahanons who spiritually and materially enhanced Archdiocesan Shrine of St. Francis of Assisi what she is now! SEGUNDO PATRON | Feast of Señor San Roque de Montpellier

Today, we honor Señor San Roque de Montpellier, Segundo Patrón of our Parish.

San Roque was born in Montpellier, France, and, after losing his parents, gave his inheritance to the poor and set out as a pilgrim. In Italy, he devoted himself to caring for victims of the plague until he himself became afflicted. After recovering, he returned to Montpellier.

According to tradition, Roque arrived in the city disguised as a humble pilgrim and was not recognized by his own uncle, the governor of Montpellier. Suspected of being a spy, his uncle ordered him imprisoned. Yet Roque did not reveal his identity. He humbly accepted his unjust imprisonment, remaining faithful to God until his death in prison. Only after his death was his true identity discovered through the cross-shaped birthmark on his chest and a stone tablet brought by an Angel, written by the hands of God himself was found with him instituting San Roque as the patron of all afflicted by infectious diseases. His life and humble death reveal a profound witness of charity, humility, sacrifice, and trust in God, especially in the midst of suffering.

Though August 16 falls on a Sunday this year, and the Sunday liturgy takes precedence in the universal liturgical calendar, this does not prevent us from honoring our beloved Segundo Patrón with devotion and love. In parishes where San Roque is the patron, his celebration holds particular importance. May we continue to carry San Roque in our hearts, asking his intercession for the sick, the suffering, and all those who selflessly care for them.

I. Nagpadayon ang atong Misa Novena sa atong Segundo Patron, Señor San Roque. Ang Misa matag adlaw-Lunes hangtod sa Sabado matag 6:00 sa buntag. Ang prosesyon himoun human sa alas 4:00 sa hapon nga Misa sa Sabado, Agosto 15, 2026. Ang iyang Misa sa Kapistahan saulogon sa Agosto 16, Dominggo sa alas 8:00 nga Misa Pro Populo.

II. Ang atong umaabot nga kapistahan haduol na. Niining higayona, ang Team of Pastors mainiton nga naga-awhag sa tanan natong minahal nga parishioners nga makig-ambit ug makasuporta sa atong mga panginahanglanon alang sa umaabot nga kapistahan.

Mahimo kamo nga moapil isip mga Bishop Stipend Sponsors, Florist Sponsors, Stewards of the Day, Major Sponsors, Concelebrating Priest Stipend Sponsors, ug Tarpulin Sponsors.

SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS DE NAGA | As one of the fruits of the recently concluded CBCP–ACSP (Association of Catholic Shrines and Pilgrimages of the Philippines) Seminar, the Venerated Processional and Patronal Image of San Francisco de Asis de Naga has successfully undergone high-precision 3D scanning, documentation, and digitization through Ars Sacra 3D.

This significant initiative seeks to preserve an accurate digital record of our beloved Patronal Image for posterity. The resulting digital model can faithfully reproduce the image in various sizes, ensuring its preservation while making it possible to bring the familiar and cherished likeness of our Patron into more homes and communities. Through these replicas, we hope to further strengthen and propagate devotion to San Francisco de Asis de Naga, whose image has long been etched into the minds and hearts of generations of devotees.

As we journey toward the Bicentennial Celebration of our Parish in 2029, this project marks an important milestone in safeguarding the rich material heritage of our Nagahanon faith and history. It is our hope that this endeavor will not only preserve the beauty and legacy of our centuries-old Patronal Image but also allow every Nagahanon family and countless devotees beyond our parish to welcome San Francisco de Asis de Naga into their homes and hearts.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Engr. Billy Joe Ricamara of ARS SACRA 3D for generously sharing his expertise in this historic undertaking. To ACSP — Rev. Fr. Ian Fel Balankig for his guidance.
