The Ateneo de Naga University Grade School joyfully celebrated the Feast of St. Francis Xavier, our beloved patron and model of missionary zeal.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Jose Embile, SJ, and concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Dennis Gabriel Lamug-Nañawa, SJ, Grade School Chaplain.

At the homily, Fr Jun reminded the community of St. Francis Xavier’s unwavering faith, generosity in service, and heartfelt dedication to bringing God’s love to others.

May St. Francis Xavier continue to guide our pupils, teachers, and families as we strive to grow in faith, excellence, and service.

Pagsungko ni Ina sa Classrooms

In line with the Vision and Mission of the Ateneo de Naga University Grade School, we bring the devotion to Ina, Our Lady of Peñafrancia, into our very own classrooms.

Through the Pagsungko ni Ina sa Classrooms, our students, faculty, and staff are reminded that faith is at the heart of our learning community. This act of piety allows us to carry the fiesta spirit inside our learning spaces—making each classroom not only a place for academic growth but also for spiritual formation.

Viva la Virgen!

Pagsungko ni Ina sa ADNU Grade School

Today, our beloved tradition of the Rite of Pagsungko graced the Bonoan Campus once again — this time presided over by our new Grade School Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Lamug-nañawa, SJ.

“Pagsungko” is a cherished Marian devotion where the image of Ina (Our Lady) visits a community or campus, blessing everyone with her motherly presence. It’s a living expression of being a Pueblo Amante de María — a People in Love with Mary.

And just as many have experienced before, Ina’s miracle was felt today — the rain held off until the rite was over, as if heaven itself wanted the celebration to shine!

The children’s voices rang out joyfully, waving their handkerchiefs and shouting “Viva la Virgen!”, their hearts full of faith and love.

Solemnity of St. Ignatius of Loyola
Founder of the Society of Jesus
Theme: “On the Road with Ignatius”

Today, the Ateneo de Naga University Grade School community joyfully gathered to celebrate the Solemnity of St. Ignatius of Loyola, with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by our Chaplain, Fr. Rev. Gabriel Lamug-Nañawa, SJ. The pupils sang loudly and responded with vibrant spirit — a fitting tribute to the founder of the Society of Jesus.

In his homily, Fr. Gabby reflected on this year’s theme, “On the Road with Ignatius,” and invited everyone to walk the path of faith, transformation, and mission, just as St. Ignatius did. He shared three important symbols of St. Ignatius’ journey:

The Sword – Signifying Ignatius' early life as a soldier. Once a symbol of pride and worldly ambition, the sword became the starting point of his conversion. It reminds us to surrender our ego and begin our journey of inner transformation.

The Quill – Representing his deep spiritual reflection and guidance through his writings, especially the Spiritual Exercises. The quill encourages us to embrace prayer, discernment, and the constant search for God’s will in our lives.

The Sandals – A symbol of his missionary journey and humble service. Ignatius walked miles to share the Gospel and accompany others. The sandals call us to live our mission, to walk with others, and to serve wherever we are needed.

As we continue “on the road with Ignatius,” may we, like him, become companions of Jesus — discerning, serving, and loving in all we do.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!

Offering of the Sword to Our Lady of Montserrat
Inspired by the example of St. Ignatius of Loyola

This week, our students participated in a meaningful tradition drawn from the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, who, before beginning his pilgrimage, laid down his sword before Our Lady of Montserrat as a sign of conversion and surrender to God's will.

In this symbolic gesture, each pupil offered a "sword"—representing pride, self-centeredness, fear, or anything that separates them from God—and placed it at the feet of Our Lady. By doing so, they expressed a desire to live more fully in faith, humility, and generosity of spirit.

This ritual is a key moment in our students’ Ignatian formation. It reflects the heart of the Spiritual Exercises (SPEX): interior freedom, discernment, and a life lived for God’s greater glory.

Why Montserrat?
At the Benedictine shrine of Our Lady of Montserrat in Spain, Ignatius spent a night in vigil and laid down his sword, leaving behind his life as a soldier to become a pilgrim for Christ. This moment marked the beginning of his transformation.

Why the sword?
The sword symbolizes the inner battles we all face—ego, control, fear. To offer it is to choose peace, trust, and openness to God's calling.

This offering is more than a ceremony. It is a moment of personal commitment for our students as they begin to walk the path of reflection, service, and deepening faith in the Ignatian tradition.

Our Lady of Montserrat, pray for us.
St. Ignatius of Loyola, guide us.

1ST CLASS RELIC OF ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA

This morning at 7:30 AM, the Grade School community gathered in solemn prayer for the Liturgical Reception and Welcome Mass of the 1st Class Relic of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Founder of the Society of Jesus.

The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Lloyd V. Sabio, SJ, Grade School Chaplain, with Ms. Janine Ericka Españo, Adviser of Grade 4 Kostka, leading the class in active participation.

Rooted in the theme “On the Road with Ignatius,” the celebration reminded us of our shared journey of faith and mission, guided by the spirit and example of St. Ignatius.

May his life continue to inspire us to walk with purpose, discernment, and love.
