FR. SANTIAGO INSTALLED AS 16TH HRMS RECTOR

The Holy Rosary Major Seminary community celebrated the Eucharistic Celebration and Solemn Installation of Rev. Fr. William J. Santiago as the 16th Rector of the Seminary on July 31, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Chapel.

The sacred celebration was presided over by Most Rev. Rex Andrew C. Alarcon, D.D., Archbishop of Caceres, together with Most Rev. Rolando Octavus Joven Tria‑Tirona, O.C.D., D.D., Archbishop Emeritus of Caceres. After the Introductory Rites, the Rite of Installation began with the reading of the official Letter of Appointment by Rev. Fr. Darius M. Romualdo, Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Caceres. Archbishop Alarcon then formally installed Fr. William as the 16th Rector, entrusting to him the ministry of leading and overseeing the integral formation of future priests.

In his homily, Archbishop Alarcon reflected on leadership as a sacred ministry modeled after Christ, the Good Shepherd. He reminded the community that true authority in the Church is exercised not through privilege or prestige but through humble and faithful service. Addressing Fr. William, he encouraged him to embrace his new ministry with wisdom, compassion, and spiritual fatherhood, fostering a seminary community grounded in prayer, fraternity, discipline, and missionary zeal. He likewise exhorted the seminarians to cooperate generously with their formators, recognizing that priestly formation flourishes when formators and formandi journey together in faith, obedience, and charity.

The celebration brought together priests, religious, seminarians, benefactors, alumni, family members, and lay faithful, all united in thanksgiving for this significant milestone in the life of the seminary. Their presence served as a visible expression of the Church’s shared responsibility in supporting priestly vocations and the continuing mission of the Seminary.

As the Seminary begins this new chapter under its 16th Rector, the community entrusts Fr. William to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Seat of Wisdom, and all the Seminary’s patrons accompany him always, that his ministry may bear abundant fruits for the Archdiocese of Caceres and the universal Church.

ST. PETER CHRYSOLOGUS FEAST STRENGTHENS SKK WITNESS

The SKK of St. Peter Chrysologus marked the feast of its patron with prayer, thanksgiving, and fraternity, honoring the life and witness of the great Bishop, preacher, and Doctor of the Church.

The celebration began at 5:45 a.m. with a solemn procession around the façade of the Holy Rosary Major Seminary, as members of the community accompanied the image of St. Peter Chrysologus in prayer. The procession was followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the Good Shepherd Chapel, presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph B. Bascuña, parochial vicar of the Parish of Our Lady of Peñafrancia Parish, Balaton, himself a former member of the SKK of St. Peter Chrysologus

In his homily, Fr. Bascuña reflected on the life and ministry of St. Peter Chrysologus, whose name, Chrysologus, means “Golden‑Worded.” Renowned for eloquent yet concise preaching, the saint dedicated his ministry to proclaiming Christ with clarity, conviction, and pastoral charity. His words were never meant merely to impress, but to lead people to conversion and to a deeper understanding of the faith.

Drawing from the witness of their patron, Fr. Bascuña reminded the community that every Christian is called to become an authentic witness of the Gospel. In a time when truth is often overlooked and genuine dialogue is increasingly rare, the faithful are invited to speak with wisdom, kindness, and courage, allowing their words to reflect the love and truth of Christ. More importantly, he emphasized that the most convincing proclamation of the Gospel is a life that faithfully embodies what one professes.

As the SKK of St. Peter Chrysologus celebrates its patronal feast, may the example of the Golden‑Worded Doctor inspire its members to proclaim Christ not only through eloquent speech but also through lives marked by holiness, humility, and faithful service.

Life brings storms, unexpected worries, failures, responsibilities, and burdens no one else sees. In these moments, fear easily overwhelms us, and like the disciples, we sometimes fail to recognize that Christ is already near. But Jesus speaks first to the heart: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Before calming the waves, He calms their fear. What we need most is not a life without difficulties but the assurance that Christ is with us.

Peter stepping out of the boat is a powerful image of faith. He left what was secure because he trusted the One who called him. Following Christ always asks us to move beyond what is comfortable. Faith is not the guarantee that nothing will go wrong; it is the confidence that Christ will never abandon us. God does not always remove the storm, sometimes He strengthens us while we are in it.

When Peter began to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” It was a short prayer, but sincere. One honest cry is enough. Faith does not mean we never struggle; it means we know whom to call when we do.

“Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand.” That word, immediately, reveals the heart of God. We may become weak. We may lose confidence. We may even doubt. Yet God's mercy is always quicker than our weakness. His hand is always greater than the waves that threaten to pull us down.

This Gospel is not only about Peter walking on water. It is about learning where to fix our eyes. When Peter looked at Jesus, he walked. When he looked at the waves, he sank. The same is true for us. If we focus only on our fears and failures, we drown in them. But when we look to Christ, everything changes.

Faith is not measured by how many times we fall, but by how many times we choose to look back at Jesus. Today’s Gospel invites us not to wait for a life without storms, but to become people who never lose sight of Christ in the middle of them.

Life can feel like the storm in today’s Gospel. We face family struggles, financial worries, pressure from school or work, sickness, and uncertainty about the future. In these moments, we sometimes ask, “Where is God when I need Him?” Like the disciples, we become afraid because the storms around us seem stronger than we are.

Yet Jesus did not stop the storm immediately. Instead, He came to His disciples while they were in the middle of it. This teaches us that God may not remove our problems at once, but He never leaves us alone. He walks with us even in our darkest moments. His words are meant for us today: “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”

Peter’s experience is also our own. He trusted Jesus enough to step out of the boat, but when he focused on the wind, he became afraid and began to sink. The same happens to us, we begin with hope, but when we focus only on our fears and failures, we lose confidence. Yet Peter did something important: he cried out, “Lord, save me!” and Jesus immediately reached out His hand. God is always ready to help those who sincerely call on Him. If we look back at our lives, we realize that God never abandoned us. He may not have answered in the way we expected, but He gave us strength, wisdom, and people who helped us continue.

This Gospel teaches us that fear and faith depend on where we fix our attention. If we focus only on the “wind” and “waves,” we become trapped by fear. But if we focus on truth, hope, and trust in the Lord, we find the courage to move forward even when life is uncertain. Faith is not the absence of problems, it is trusting that God is greater than our problems.

Jesus invites us to step out of our own “boat”, our comfort zones, fears, doubts, and worries, and to trust Him. The storms of life will come, but like Peter, we can pray, “Lord, save me!” The same hand that lifted Peter is the same hand reaching out to us today. If we keep our eyes on Jesus instead of our fears, we will discover that faith gives us the courage to walk through every storm, knowing that we are never alone.

FR. CHING RECEIVES FINAL COMMENDATION

The Holy Rosary Major Seminary community solemnly received the mortal remains of Rev. Fr. Felix Martin “Ching” Penetrante at the Good Shepherd Chapel, where seminarians, formators, priests, family members, and friends united in prayer to commend his soul to God’s loving mercy and to honor his life of faithful priestly service.

Following the reception rites, the community celebrated the Holy Eucharist presided over by Rev. Fr. Jayson S. Gaite together with the seminary formators. In his homily, Fr. Gaite reflected on the Christian hope in the Resurrection, reminding the faithful that death is not an end but the fulfillment of Christ’s promise. He encouraged everyone to remember Fr. Ching not only with sorrow but with gratitude for the witness of his priestly life, and with confidence that those who have served the Lord with fidelity will share in the joy of His eternal kingdom.

The Eucharistic Celebration became a profound expression of the Church’s faith in the communion of saints and the victory of Christ over sin and death. United in prayer, the seminary community entrusted Fr. Ching to God’s infinite mercy, giving thanks for his vocation, his ministry, and the many lives he touched throughout his years of service to the Church.

The Seminary continues to pray for the eternal repose of Rev. Fr. Ching. May Christ, the Eternal High Priest whom he faithfully served, welcome him into the fullness of His heavenly kingdom, where every tear is wiped away and peace knows no end.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.

St. Martha's Day Honors Seminary Personnel

The Holy Rosary Major Seminary community marked the Feast of St. Martha on July 29, 2026, in honor of the Seminary Personnel whose quiet and faithful service sustains the daily life and mission of the institution. As Patroness of the Seminary Personnel, St. Martha reminds the community that every act of humble service becomes holy when offered with love for God and neighbor.

The celebration began with a recollection for the seminary personnel, offering them a moment of prayer, reflection, and spiritual renewal. In the afternoon, they came together for fellowship through games and recreational activities, fostering joy, gratitude, and camaraderie among those whose dedication often unfolds behind the scenes.

In a gesture of appreciation, assigned seminarians took on the responsibilities ordinarily carried out by the seminary personnel throughout the day. By assuming these tasks, the seminarians not only expressed gratitude but also gained a deeper understanding of the indispensable role the personnel play in the formation and daily rhythm of seminary life.

At 6:00 p.m., the community gathered at the Good Shepherd Chapel for the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. William J. Santiago, Rector of the Seminary. Reflecting on the witness of St. Martha, Fr. William reminded the community that authentic service is measured not by recognition but by love. Martha’s generosity and hospitality, he emphasized, flowed from her relationship with Christ, teaching that true Christian service is rooted in faith, nourished by prayer, and expressed through selfless acts of charity. Like St. Martha, every disciple is called to welcome Christ not only into one’s home but also into one’s heart through a life of faithful service.

The celebration concluded with a fellowship dinner prepared by the Samahan ng Kristiyanong Komunidad (SKK) at St. Martha’s Refectory, where seminarians and personnel shared an evening of gratitude and fraternity. The gathering served as a fitting expression of appreciation for the men and women whose dedication, generosity, and hard work support the mission of priestly formation.

The Seminary extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its personnel. Through the intercession of St. Martha of Bethany, may the Lord bless them with strength, joy, and abundant grace as they faithfully serve the seminary community each day.
