As we continued our series on Developing Patience last Sunday, we were reminded that spiritual growth does not stop in enduring hardship, embracing Godโs perfect time, and extending grace to others.

In 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, Paul reminds us not to lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are being renewed day by day. Our present suffering may feel heavy now, but compared to the eternal glory waiting for us in Christ, these troubles are only temporary.
Because of this truth, we are called to embrace our present citizenship. Philippians 3:20 reminds us that our citizenship is in heaven. This world is not our home. We are strangers and pilgrims on earth, eagerly waiting for the return of our Savior, Jesus Christ. When we remember where we truly belong, patience becomes possible even in seasons of suffering.
We are also called to embrace our present role. As Christโs ambassadors, we represent Jesus in this world. God makes His appeal through us. Our words, actions, and deeds should point people back to Him. The message we carry is reconciliation through Christ.
Lastly, we are called to embrace our present goal. Ephesians 5:8 reminds us that we were once darkness, but now we are light in the Lord. Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have been transformed. Because of this, we are commanded to live as children of light, aligning our lives with Godโs will.
Patience grows when we remember who we belong to, why we are here, and where we are going.
