March - Month dedicated to St. Joseph
The extraordinary story of the miraculous staircase of San Jose
Engineers and architects cannot decipher the physics behind the construction.
There is a chapel known as Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico State, USA. It stands out a beautiful and unassuming staircase. Traditional piety attributes construction to St. Joseph.
In 1898 the Chapel in the City of Santa Fe underwent a renovation. A new top floor has been done but need a ladder to go up. The Sisters consulted the local carpenters and they all found it difficult to make a staircase in such a small Chapel.
The religious, then, prayed a novena to St. Joseph, to ask for a solution. On the last day of the novena, a man appeared with a saddle and a toolbox. He agreed to make the stairs, but insisted that the doors be closed.
Months later, the staircase was built as the Sisters wanted. At the time of paying for the service, the man disappeared without a trace.
Religious women put ads in the local newspaper and searched the whole region, finding no news or information about the unknown carpenter. At that moment the Sisters realized that the man could be Saint Joseph, sent by Jesus.
There are several elements that reinforce the aura of pious mystery, which involves the construction of the staircase: The wood used is not from the region, and no one knows how it got there. No stair nail used either, just wooden pins.
Besides, today it sounds mysterious that she is still standing because she is a snail type and has no central support. Actually, only a metal backing was added.
Engineers and architects are said to have failed to decipher the physics behind the construction.
Finally, the staircase has 33 steps, the age of Jesus Christ, which further reinforces the assumption of a phenomenon of supernatural origin.
Father Jose, pray for us!!
