STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION ON PROPER VESTMENTS & PRESENTATIONS OF SACRED IMAGES.
This statement is issued to clarify concerns and to formally call for the cessation of any discrimination, misinterpretation, or disrespect regarding the proper vestments and the presentation of sacred images because it comes to our attention that there are social media users who keep on reposting our photos for fun and for embarrassment.
We affirm that all vestments and sacred images under our care have been prepared, displayed, and maintained in accordance with long-standing Church traditions and practices. These traditions are deeply rooted in reverence, theological meaning, and scriptural foundations, which guide the faithful in honoring sacred representations with dignity and respect.
Throughout Church history, the use of vestments and the adornment of sacred images have served as visible expressions of devotion, solemnity, and liturgical identity. Scripture itself supports the use of appropriate garments and sacred ornamentation in worship (e.g., Exodus 28:2, which speaks of garments made “for glory and for beauty”), reflecting the importance of honoring the sacred with due care and intentionality.
It is also important to recognize that any variations or unexpected changes in the presentation of sacred images are not acts of irreverence or neglect. Rather, such adjustments may arise from environmental or practical circumstances, including but not limited to weather conditions, space limitations, safety considerations, or preservation needs. These decisions are made with prudence and respect, ensuring that the dignity of the sacred is upheld at all times.
In light of this, we respectfully but firmly call for an end to any form of discrimination, unfounded criticism, or disrespect directed toward those responsible for these sacred duties. Constructive dialogue is always welcome; however, it must be grounded in understanding, charity, and respect for both tradition and context. We remain committed to preserving the sanctity, integrity, and proper reverence due to all sacred vestments and images, in faithful continuity with the teachings and traditions of the Church. Issued in good faith for clarity, unity, and mutual respect.
