The dedicated YIFI would like to share the performance presented during the Night of Performances at the 15th DYC 2026 held in Patag, Opol.

The presentation portrayed the social issue of poverty, accompanied by the song Kaloy by Dilaw.

This song is much more than one person named Kaloy. It is a social commentary about the struggles of ordinary Filipino workers (farmers, laborers, gov employees, fisherfolks, drivers, atbp). Kaloy represents the common Filipino worker who struggles daily just to survive.

Ika nga sa kanta, "Ako si Kaloy, ikaw si Kaloy, tayo si Kaloy."

Filipinos are hardworking. The Philippines has so much to offer and blessed with abundant resources. Yet many remain trapped in poverty despite their labor and sacrifices.

As we celebrate Independence Day, may we all reflect on these questions:

Are we truly free when many Filipinos still go to bed hungry? when farmers struggle to earn from the crops they planted? when hardworking workers barely make enough to survive?

May this day remind us that genuine freedom is not only the absence of our mananakops, but also the presence of justice, opportunity, human dignity, and good governance for all.

Happy 128th Philippine Independence Day!🇵🇭

Looking back at the history of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI), its roots are closely linked to the Unión Obrera Democrática Filipina (UOD), founded by Don Isabelo de los Reyes Sr. Together with Filipino workers and laborers, the UOD championed workers’ rights while advancing the broader struggle for Philippine independence and resistance to American colonial rule. From its beginnings, the IFI has emphasized not only its spiritual mission but also the welfare, dignity, and freedom of the Filipino people.
