Philosophical Folly

Colossians 2:16–17 is frequently cited as proof that Christians no longer need to observe the Sabbath or biblical festivals. But is that really what Paul was saying? This message examines the larger context of Colossians, the ascetic philosophy influencing the church, and Paul’s warning against submitting to human regulations such as “Do not touch, do not taste, do not handle.” Ultimately, Paul points believers away from man-made spirituality and back to Jesus Christ, in whom true wisdom, spiritual growth, and our future inheritance are found.

And He Heard Their Cry

What happens when you have prayed, cried, and waited—but nothing seems to change? Israel cried out from bo***ge, and Scripture says that God heard, remembered His covenant, looked upon His people, and acknowledged them. This message follows the cry of God’s people from Egypt to the return of Jesus Christ and shows that divine delay does not mean divine denial. The ultimate answer to humanity’s suffering, injustice, and bo***ge will come when the King returns.

As we are about to enter His Holy Day of rest again, let us comtemplate and be thankful to Him for how we made it through the past six days of this week safe and sound under His care and guidance.

Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer,
The Holy One of Israel:
“I am the LORD your God,
Who teaches you to profit,
Who leads you by the way you should go.
Oh, that you had heeded My commandments!
Then your peace would have been like a river,
And your righteousness like the waves of the sea. - Isaiah 48:17-18

As we enter our rest again, let us be grateful to Him who made this day, sanctified it and also rested in it.

"So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from His." (Hebrews 4:9-10 ESV)

Sometimes what looks like freedom is actually bo***ge.

The freedom to do whatever you want can slowly become slavery to your desires.
The freedom to chase pleasure can become addiction.
The freedom to live without boundaries can leave you more controlled than ever.

True freedom isn’t having no limits—it’s being free from the things that control you.

Jesus said, “Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” — John 8:34

But He also said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36

So, what’s one thing people call “freedom” that you think is actually bo***ge?

Fear doesn’t always need a danger. Sometimes, uncertainty is enough.

But you don’t have to face it alone. Through truth, love, faith, and courage, you can learn to face fear without letting it decide what you do.
