SPIRITUAL GROWTH (I)
”But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18
Being born again is the beginning of the Christian walk, the basis of our faith. To enjoy the full benefit of believing in Jesus you need to grow spiritually and add more to your faith. Otherwise, staying as a baby in Christ hinders you from knowing and exercising your rights as mature sons should.
Spiritual growth does not just happen, it comes from taking deliberate covenant spiritual steps. Some of these wisdom steps include:
(a) Reading, studying, meditate on, believing and obeying the word of God. ”As new-born babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby” (1 Peter 2:2).
(b) Praying in the spirit and with understanding. ”What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also” (1 Corinthians 14:15).
“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” (Jude 1:20).
(c) Fellowship regularly with believers - ”Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25, Ephesians 4:11-14).
(d) Being baptized with the Holy Spirit - ”But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26).
Most of these covenant steps must be done consistently, just as a baby is fed continuously, if such a baby must grow. If not, the Christian will be spiritually malnourished and can even go back in faith. If you add relevant substance to your faith as a Christian, you will never fail.
