O Most Holy Virgin Mary, Mother of Wisdom and Seat of Learning, we place before you all students, teachers, and non-teaching personnel as they embark on this new school year.

Dearest Mother, pray for them so that God may grant them clarity of thought, a thirst for knowledge, and the strength to overcome academic challenges. Guide their steps, calm their worries, and fill their hearts with a deep love for learning.

Help them to remain focused, disciplined, and kind to their peers. Protect them from discouragement, distractions, and harm. Be with their teachers and families, too, that they may guide and support them with patience and love.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, walk with them every step of this educational journey. Lead them each day closer to your Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

O Mary conceived without sin,

BREAKING NEWS: POPE LEO XIV ACCEPTS BISHOP JESSE MERCADO’S RESIGNATION; BISHOP ELIAS AYUBAN NAMED APOSTOLIC ADMINISTRATOR OF PARAÑAQUE

The Most Rev. Charles John Brown, Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines, has announced today that Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation of Bishop Jesse E. Mercado upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 75.

The announcement was made during the Holy Mass held at the Our Lady of Hope Chapel in Landmark Manila Bay, where clergy, religious, and lay faithful gathered to celebrate the 75th birthday of Bishop Mercado, the founding bishop of the Diocese of Parañaque.

Pending the appointment of a new diocesan bishop, Pope Leo XIV has designated Bishop Elias L. Ayuban Jr. of the Diocese of Cubao to serve as Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Parañaque. In this capacity, Bishop Ayuban will oversee the pastoral and administrative governance of the diocese during the period of transition.

Bishop Mercado was appointed by St. John Paul II as the first bishop of the newly established Diocese of Parañaque in 2003. Throughout more than two decades of episcopal ministry, he guided the local Church serving the cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Muntinlupa, earning the respect of clergy and faithful alike for his fidelity to Church teaching, thoughtful leadership, and dedication to pastoral formation.

As the Diocese of Parañaque enters a new chapter in its history, the faithful are invited to offer prayers of thanksgiving for Bishop Mercado’s years of service and to pray for Bishop Ayuban as he assumes the responsibility of leading the diocese during this interim period.
