โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Elizabeth Ann Seton ๐Ÿ˜‡

Elizabeth Anne Seton lost most all of the loved ones in her life, but grew in love and faith despite the horrors she faced.

There were a series of setbacks and problems with the community. In addition to the personal sufferings of Mother Seton: two of her sisters-in-law died, her daughter made a foolish engagement, the man breaking off said engagement, and the death of her daughter by consumption at the young age of 16. Despite all this, she remained subjugate to the will of God. Now afflicted with tuberculosis, Mother Seton attempted to guide her wayward sons, her most constant anxiety in life. Though she doesnโ€™t live to see it, they died good deaths in God.

The Sisterhoodโ€™s rule was formally ratified in 1812, and went on to inspire 6 other groups of sisters that all trace back their origin to the Sisters of Charity. Mother Seton guided the Sisterhoodโ€™s growth, even through the death of another daughter. They had established two orphanages and another school by 1818. In the last three years of Mother Setonโ€™s life, she was overjoyed to feel God calling her home to Him, and died at age 46 in 1821. She had lived a life glowing with love despite her hardships and losses, and was canonized as the patron of the loss of parents on September 14th, 1975.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Rita De Casia ๐Ÿ˜‡

St. Rita was a female saint living during the 14th and 15th century in Italy. Although she was married at any early age to an abusive husband, with whom her relationship lasted for more than 18 years, she was a model wife who prayed constantly for her husband. Even after her husband died in a feud, she discouraged her sons from trying to seek revenge. Following their death, Rita entered the convent in Cascia.

Today, St. Rita is known as the patron saint for abused women, mourning wives and impossible causes. Many women turn to her during times of despair, after a death in the family or even after a divorce. She is often depicted in artwork and on medals in a religious sisterโ€™s habit, with roses or a rose crown.

St. Rita died peacefully on May 22, 1457. The bells in the church in Cascia began to sound on their own, without the help of human hands. As the nuns prepared for her burial in a simple wooden coffin, the carpenter lamented that had he not suffered a stroke he would have been able to make a more beautiful coffin in which to lay such a holy woman. Soon after speaking these words, the carpenter was healed, and he was able to carve an ornate and elaborately decorated coffin to be the final resting place of St. Ritaโ€™s body. Yet, she was never buried in it. Soon after her death she was kept on display, as so many local people came to look on the face of the โ€œPeacemaker of Cascia.โ€ As her burial became more and more delayed, it was noticed that St. Ritaโ€™s remains were not suffering natureโ€™s usual course of decay; rather, her body was perfectly preserved as though she had just passed away. To this day the body of St. Rita is on display in a glass enclosure in the basilica in Cascia.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina ๐Ÿ˜‡

St. Padre Pio Of Pietrelcina, known simply as St. Padre Pio, was born May 25, 1887 to peasant farmers. A devout boy, he was a Capuchin novice in 1903 entering the priesthood in 1910 where he became known as Padre Pio.

Kneeling before a large crucifix on Sept. 20, 1918, Padre Pio was stigmatized with marks of the cross, the first priest to show those signs. He predicted the wounds would disappear upon his death. This was found to be true when he died in 1968. Some 100,000 followers attended his funeral.

Known for devotion to the confessional where he sometimes attended to penitents for 12 hours a day, or more, Padre Pio was canonized by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002 before half a million devotees. Padre Pioโ€™s work lives on with prayer groups in his name. He is honored by a feast day on Sept. 23.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Maria Goretti ๐Ÿ˜‡

At age 11, St. Maria Goretti made her First Communion with great devotion. Just a month afterwards, she was called to receive the double crown of martyrdom and virginity. On July 5, 1902, the 16 year tenant worker Alessandro pulled a knife on St. Maria, intending to force her commit a sin against the virtue of purity. Instead, St. Maria Goretti cried out โ€œNo! No! No! It is a sinโ€”you will go to Hell!โ€ Angrily, Alessandro stabbed her fourteen times and left her for dead. Since everyone was out in the fields, no one heard Mariaโ€™s cries for help. She was finally discovered and rushed to the hospital, but little could be done.

Despite her sufferings, she never opened her mouth to complain. After caring for her wounds, Dr. Bartoli told the incoming priest, โ€œFather you have little to do. We are leaving a dying girl but you are finding an angel.โ€ Before she died, she was asked if she forgave her murderer and she replied as only a saint could, โ€œYes, I too, for the love of Jesus forgive himโ€ฆ and I want him to be with me in Paradiseโ€ฆ May God forgive him, because I have already forgiven him.โ€

Although St. Maria Goretti died praying for her murderer, it would be years later before he repented. After several years in prison, St. Maria Goretti appeared to Alessandro one night in a dream: she was standing in a field of flowers and holding white lilies out to him. Alessandro finally repented and St. Maria Gorettiโ€™s dying prayer had been heard. Imitating the heroic forgiveness of her daughter, Assunta also heroically forgave Alessandro; on Christmas Eve in 1937, the mother of St. Maria Goretti and the murderer of St. Maria Goretti attended Christmas together at the saintโ€™s shrine.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Dominic Savio ๐Ÿ˜‡

With a feast day on March 9, St. Dominic Savio is patron saint of the falsely accused and choir boys. Born in Italy, he lived from 1842 to 1857. He started praying at age 4 and was an alter boy at age 5. โ€œDeath but not sinโ€ was the motto he chose at age 7.

Dominic preached to other children at a school operated by St. John Bosco until he caught ill at age 15. Saying he welcomed death because he wanted to go to Heaven, he died at home. He often is depicted in a prayer pose with hands clasped together.

Dominic became known as saint of the falsely accused when he took the blame for a prank perpetrated by other students. When the prankโ€™s truth was revealed, he said he didnโ€™t fight false charges because he was acting like our Lord who stayed silent during persecution and crucifixion.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Maximilian Kolbe ๐Ÿ˜‡

St. Maximilian was born as Raymond Kolbe on January 8th, 1894, in Zdunska Wola, Poland. He was a particularly mischievous child until, after being reprimanded by his mother, he went to pray. He states, โ€œI prayed very hard to Our Lady to tell me what would happen to me. She appeared, holding in her hands two crowns, one white, one red. She asked if I would like to have themโ€”one was for purity, the other for martyrdom. I said, โ€˜I choose both.โ€™ She smiled and disappeared.โ€ He entered a junior Franciscan seminary in Lwow, where he excelled at mathematics and physics, feeding his passion for all things military. His teachers saw in him great potential in the sciences or as a strategist, based off of his intelligence and military interest. However, he abandoned his military passion for the priesthood after his parents announced that they were going into religious life since all of their children were in seminaries, and he couldnโ€™t bear to disappoint them. Professing his final vows in 1914, he took the name Maximilian Mary Kolbe, displaying his devotion to Mary, family, and God.

Pope John Paul II, also a citizen of Poland, canonized St. Maximillian Mary Kolbe on the 10th of October, 1982. His feast day is celebrated August 14th, right before the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady. Maximillian is the patron saint of drug addicts and prisoners. He may not have been the legendary soldier to free Poland and destroy the N***s, but he died a true soldier in Christ.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Joseph, Husband of Mary ๐Ÿ˜‡

Josephโ€™s difficulties ended in revelation in a dream. He discovered that he was chosen by God to be the earthly foster father of Jesus and the protector of his family.

20 But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, โ€œJoseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.โ€ (Matthew 1: 20 โ€“ 21)

As a faithful Jew, Joseph would also know the promise of the Messiah. As Mary did, he also said โ€œYes!โ€ to God and acted in obedience to the Holy Spirit.

It was not an easy life. It involved the taking his family to Egypt to save Jesus from Herodโ€™s soldiers (Matthew 2: 13 โ€“ 15). When they returned to Nazareth, Joseph had the daily concerns of finding enough work to feed his family. Even after making the costs of everyday life, the family managed to save enough to participate in the yearly Passover celebration in Jerusalem accompanied by their family and friends. (Luke 1: 41 โ€“ 51)

Josephโ€™s life, work, and his continuing care and protection of the Holy Family is hidden from us. And in this way he is a model for all men who in their families and religious communities in their daily labor love and support all who come under their protection. It is for this reason that Pope Pius IX declared St Joseph to be the Patron of the Church. St Joseph was also declared the patron of workers celebrated on May 1. And as tradition tells us that he died in the presence of Mary and Jesus, we may also pray for his intercession for a holy death.

โ˜บ Halina't kilalanin si St. Michael the Archangel ๐Ÿ˜‡

Over the years, angels have been portrayed and presented in many different forms. Many see these messengers of God as fluffy winged, halo-crowned youths or as the babyish cherubs you often see in old paintings and sculptures. Peopleโ€™s interpretations of angels vary from diligent guardians of children to the myth of the ringing of a bell giving an angel its wings. Overall, angels have become a widely romanticized topic. What many people fail to notice, however, is that angels are both the messengers and warriors of God. They were often described as fearsome beings, such as the Cherubim with four wings and heads, covered with eyes and flaming wheels about them, or the Seraphim sporting four wings and towering stature. This gives good reason as to why they greeted most mortals with the phrase โ€œBe not afraidโ€. One of the best known of the angels would be St. Michael the Archangel, the high prince and one of the principal angels.

Michael is the patron saint of the Military, Police officers, Firemen, death, and people who work in dangerous conditions. His feast day is celebrated on the 29th of September. St. Michael the Archangel has inspired artists, accompanied souls, and protected Godโ€™s people throughout the ages as the leader of the angels and a true warrior of God.
