Ang mga katoliko ay inaasahang ituring ang palaspas bilang isang banal na sakramental, hindi lamang palamuti. Ang inuwing palaspas ay dapat ilagay sa isang kagalang-galang na lugar sa bahay, tulad ng altar, o isabit sa pintuan bilang tanda ng proteksyon at pagtanggap kay Hesus. Ang mga lumang palaspas ay dapat sunugin o ibaon, hindi itapon sa basura.

AM I WORSHIPPING WOOD?

Some people say that Catholics worship wood and stone. But here is a simple logic:

When I see a blank piece of paper, I feel nothing. But when I see a picture of my Mama and Papa printed on that paper, my heart feels something. I miss them.
I am not loving the paper. I am loving the people in the picture.

In the same way, when I see plain wood or stone, I feel nothing. But when I see the image of the Santo Niรฑo, made of wood, my heart becomes happy. It reminds me of God who was with me during my deepest pain.

I do not worship the wood. I worship God. Remembering God and His loving care through images is not wrong.

(At this point, we are still speaking in terms of simple logic. Nasa level pa lang tayo ng COMMON SENSE; we have not yet entered into its proper biblical exegesis or explanation โ€” but the logic I presented is already enough.)

Even children can understand this simple logic. Why do you find it difficult to understand?

Answer: It is pride (ego) that makes people refuse this simple truth. Remember, Jesus said in the Gospel that we must be humble like little children if we want to enter heaven.

Sometimes, the problem is not the image, but the heart that refuses to be humble.

This idea sounds tolerant, peaceful, and humble.
In reality, it is neither Christian nor Catholic.

It is the old, condemned heresy called religious indifferentism.

Indifferentism teaches that:

The Catholic Church has formally condemned this error because it denies objective truth, empties the Gospel, and makes Christ unnecessary.

If all religions are equal, then:

This is not Christianity. This is religious nihilism.

It is not only illogical but a grave insult to Christ Himself to reject the Church He personally founded and replace it with man-made Protestant denominations established 1,500 years later by fallible men.

Christ shed His blood for one Church, not thousands of competing sects with contradictory doctrines.

To abandon Christโ€™s Church for a church invented by men is to say, in effect:

Different Religions Worship Different Gods.

๐Ÿ™Hinduism is polytheistic or pantheistic.

Contradictory claims cannot all be true.

If one religion says:

Truth is not elastic.

There was one Ark

Likewise, Catholics can fall into mortal sin.
Apostasy and grave sin lead to loss of salvation.

The Church is the instrument, not a magic guarantee.

Yan ang mga ilang tanong at komento na nababasa ko habang sumusubaybay ako dito sa Roma ng Traslacion ng Seรฑor Jesus Nazareno.

Bakit nga ba?

Kung tutuusin, tanong yan ng isang taong praktikal. Dahil kung praktikal ka, pipiliin mo yung pinakamadali. Pipiliin mo yung walang hassle. Pipillin mo yung mas maluwang, yung walang pila, yung mabilis. Ganyan mag-isip ang taong praktikal.

Tanong yan ng isang taong praktikal, hindi ng isang debotong nagmamahal.

Dahil ang deboto, hindi sila praktikal. Marunong lang silang magmahal. Dahil January 9 ang natatanging araw ng Seรฑor, yun din ang pinakamagandang araw para sa mga nagmamahal na deboto na ipahayag ang kanilang pagmamahal. Para sa debotong nagmamahal, hindi uso ang praktikal. Dahil puso lang ang umiiral.

Kung tutuusin din, yung mahabang pila, yung pagod, gutom at uhaw na nararamdaman nila sa kanilang pagpila at paghintay sa Seรฑor, ay salamin din ng kanilang buhay. Dahil araw-araw, oras-oras, hindi lang basta pagod at gutom ang kanilang hinaharap. Nandyan din yung bigat ng kanilang mga krus sa kanilang buhay na araw-araw, oras-oras din nilang pinapasan. Kaya ang saglit na paghagkan, saglit na paghalik sa paa o sa krus ng Seรฑor ay tila bagang pananabik ng kanilang puso sa tunay na kaginhawaan. Kaginhawaan na tanging si Jesus Nazareno lang ang makapagbibigay.

Hindi yan mauunawaan ng isang taong praktikal. Dahil para sa taong praktikal, kung walang hirap mas maigi. Kung walang pagod, mas mainam.

Kaya bakit nga ba sila pipila ng mahaba? Bakit nga ba sila maghihintay ng matagal? Dahil alam din nila, may hangganan din ang hirap, may hangganan din ang pagpasan ng krus. At sa hangganan na iyon, si Jesus Nazareno mismo ang yayakap at kukuha ng krus na iyon.

There are many sincere atheists who seek God but have a hard time believing. That's one thing. PITIK-BULAG: PATRON NG MGA SIGA AT MATON

Malaking palaisipan sa akin ang Kapistahan ng Nazareno ng Quiapo tuwing Enero 9. Dito lamang ako nakakakita ng laksa-laksang kalalakihan na may debosyon sa ating Panginoong Hesus. Dito lamang ako nakakakita ng nakatagong pananampalataya ng mga kalalakihan, mga siga at maton ng lipunan.

Kung bibilangin natin ang nagsisimbang lalaking Pilipino tuwing Linggo, kapansin-pansin na mas nakararami ang bilang ng kababaihan sa bilang ng kalalakihan. Mas madali kasi sa babae ang magpakita ng kanilang pananampalataya sa Diyos kaysa sa mga kalalakihang Pilipino.

Ngunit kakaiba sa Piyesta ng Quiapo. Dito makikita ang malalim ng debosyon at pananalig ng nakararaming ordinaryong Pilipino. Dito sa Quiapo natin makikita ang kanilang malalim na kagustuhang mapalapit din sa Diyos. Ang sabi nga ng nakararami, sa Kapistahan ng Nazareno, bumaba ang bilang ng krimen sa Maynila dahil maging ang mga magnanakaw at kriminal ay nagsisimba rin sa Quiapo. Kayaโ€™t ang sabi rin ng kaibigan ko, ang Piyesta ng Quiapo ay Piyesta ng mga siga at maton ng Maynila.

Natatawa na lamang ako sa ganitong mga komentaryo ng mga tao. Ngunit kung iisipin kong mabuti, natutuwa ako sa Piyesta ng Nazareno. Dahil sa araw na ito, maging ang mga siga, maton at hindi nagsisimba tuwing linggo ay nagsisimba sa Araw ng Quiapo. Ang karaniwang tawag sa kanila ay miembro ng KBL - mga nagsisimba lamang tuwing may Kasal, Binyag at Libing.

Naalala ko ang aking pinsan. Isang napakabait na tao. Tahimik at simpleng tao. Hindi mo siya nakikitang nagsisimba tuwing Linggo, subalit asahan mong nasa Quiapo siya tuwing Enero 9 upang sumali sa prusisyon ng Nazareno. Ang pangarap lamang ng aking pinsan tuwing Kapistahan ng Nazareno, ay ang makahawak sa malaking lubid na humahatak sa karo ng Mahal na Nazareno at hilingin ang kaligtasan ng kanyang pamilya. May malalim silang paniniwala na kung makakahawak sila sa lubid na ito, patatawarin ng Diyos ang kanilang mga kasalanan. Maraming tao ang humusga sa ganitong uri ng paniniwala. Ngunit hindi ko mahusgahan ang pinsan ko na mabuting tao naman. Masisisi ko ba kung dito niya nararamdaman ang pag-ibig ng Diyos? Masasabi ko ba agad na tama ako sa pagsamba at mali siya?

Mabilis nating mahatulan ang mga deboto ng Nazareno. Isang mababaw na pananampalataya ito - ang sabi ng ibang tao. Ngunit sa tuwing pinanood ko ang mga siga at maton ng lipunang hayok na hayok na mahawakan ang lubid ng Nazareno, alam kong mayroon akong hindi nakikita. Alam kong hindi ito simpleng mababaw na pananampalataya. Mayroon akong hindi nauunawaan ng aking isip at talino. Alam kong may Diyos na nakakaunawa sa kanila.

Maaring hindi nila alam kung paano malalapit sa Diyos. Maaring takot silang lumapit sa Diyos. Maaring hindi nila nakikita ang kanilang sariling karapat-dapat na lumapit sa kanya, kung kayaโ€™t sa pamamagitan man lamang ng lubid ng Nazareno, mahawakan nila ang Diyos na mapagpatawad.

Marami akong hindi maunawaan sa Kapistahan ng Quiapo. Hindi ko maunawaan kung bakit maraming nasasaktan sa prusisyon. Minsan may namamatay pa nga. Alam kong maraming dapat itama sa pagiging panatiko ng ilan. Subalit nakikita ko rin ang malalim na kagustuhan ng mga siga at maton ng Quiapo na mapalapit sa Diyos, kay Hesus na manunubos ng lahat.

Maaring mali sa mata ng iba ang ganitong uri ng pananampalataya. May kababawan ba ito kung dito nila naipapahayag ang laman ng kanilang puso? Masasabi ba natin na maling pagsamba ang pagsayaw ng isang lumpo sa kanyang wheelchair sa harap ng altar, sapagkat hindi siya makapagsalita at makagalaw? Sa isang kilos-puso, ang puso lamang ang maaring makaunawa. Maaring may kalabisan ang ilan sa mga deboto sa pagpapakita ng kanilang pananalig, ngunit hindi ito sapat na dahilan upang hatulan ko ang mga deboto ng Nazareno.

Hindi ako deboto ng Nazareno. Subalit paminsan-minsan, pinipili kong magsimba sa Quiapo upang maranasan man lamang ang pananampalataya ng ordinaryong Pilipino. Lumusong at lumangoy din sa kanilang pamamaraan ng pagsamba sa Diyos. Nauunawaan ko na dapat din silang umakyat sa antas at lallim ng pananampalataya, subalit baka may sariling antas at lalim ang kanilang debosyon na iba sa aking sukatan ng pananampalataya. Minsan nakalulungkot na hindi natin hinuhusgahan ang mga mayayaman at mga kilalang tao na miembro ng iba't-ibang uri ng sekta. Hindi natin sinisita ang mga kilalang tao na may kaso ng graft and corruption sa bansa na nagsisimba tuwing Linggo. Subalit mabilis tayong nagiging hukom sa mga ordinaryong pagsamba ng ating mga kapatid na maralita, ang tawag pa nga natin dito - popular devotions.

Kapistahan na naman ng Poong Nazareno ng Quaipo ngayon, handa na ang mga kalalakihan. Suot-suot na ang kanilang mga purple T-shirt na may tatak ng Nazareno. Dala-dala na rin ang kanilang mga bimpo at tuwalyang pamunas ng kanilang pawis, at pamunas na rin sa Imahen ng Nazareno kung silaโ€™y papalarin na makalapit sa Imahen. Handa na silang magbigay pugay at paggalang sa Patron ng mga Siga at Maton.

Sino nga ba ang tunay na banal? Ano nga ba ang tunay na pagsamba? Sino ang tunay na sumasamba? Ang taong nagsusumikap na makahipo sa Poong Nazareno at naghahanap ng pagbabago o ang isang taong nasa magarang simbahan at tahimik na nagdarasal subalit punung-puno naman ng kasakiman at dilim ang kanilang puso?

May kababawan ba ang mga deboto ng Quaipo. Maaring sa mata ng iba. Ngunit hindi sa mata ng Diyos na marunong bumasa sa puso ng taong nagnanais mapalapit sa kanya. Dito ko mas naunawaan kung bakit malapit sa puso ni Papa Francisco ang mga maralita at itinakwil ng lipunan.

Alam talaga ng Diyos kung papaano huhulihin ang puso ng lahat ng tao, maging ang puso ng mga siga at maton ng lipunan.
