FAITH SHOULD NOT STOP WITH US | “In the first reading today, Moses is speaking to the people of Israel before they enter the Promised Land. And he tells them something very important: “Hear the statutes and decrees which I am teaching you to observe, that you may live.”

Notice that word: “that you may live.”

God’s commandments are not given to make our life difficult. They are given so that we may live well.

Let me share three simple reflections.

First: God’s commandments are meant to protect us.

Sometimes people think religion is just about rules. “Don’t do this.” “Don’t do that.”

But the commandments of God are actually like the advice of loving parents.

For example, when parents tell their children:
“Study well.”
“Don’t lie.”
“Respect people.”
“Don’t waste your life.”

These are not punishments. These are expressions of love.

In the same way, God tells us:
Do not steal.
Do not lie.
Honor your parents.
Love your neighbor.

When people ignore these, what happens?

Families break.
Trust disappears.
Communities suffer.

God’s commandments are not there to limit our happiness.
They are there to protect our lives and our relationships.

Second: the way we live our faith becomes a witness to others.

Moses says something interesting. He says that when other nations see how the people of Israel live, they will say: “Surely this is a wise and intelligent people.”

In other words, faith is not only something we believe.
It should be something people can see.

People should see our faith in the way we treat others.

For example:

When we fall in line patiently.
When we return what is not ours.
When we say thank you.
When we respect the poor.
When we help someone in need.

These simple actions show that our faith is real.

Many people may never read the Bible, but they will read our lives every day. May they see in us something that reflects the goodness of God.

Third: we must pass our faith to the next generation.

At the end of the reading, Moses gives a very important instruction. He says: “Teach these things to your children and to your children’s children.”

Faith should not stop with us.

Parents, the most important thing we can give our children is not money, not property, not business. The most important thing we can give them is faith in God.

Teach them how to pray.
Bring them to church.
Show them honesty, kindness, and discipline.

Because children may sometimes close their ears to what we say…

But they will always open their eyes to what we do.

Our example will shape their future.

Fina Words

The message of Moses today is simple.

God’s commandments guide us to a good life. Our lives should reflect the faith we believe. And we must pass that faith to the next generation.

If we live this way, our families will be stronger, our communities will be better, and our faith will continue to grow.

And people who see our lives may say: “These are people who truly walk with God.”
