The Feast of St Joseph the Worker

St Joseph the Worker, the foster father of Jesus and the patron saint of workers. St. Joseph, a humble carpenter, exemplifies the dignity of labour and the importance of fulfilling our duties with diligence and integrity. Through his quiet and faithful service, St Joseph teaches us that our work, no matter how small or ordinary, can be a means of sanctification! On this day, we honour all workers and ask for St Joseph's intercession as we strive to live out our vocations with a spirit of service.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the example of St Joseph, who faithfully worked as a carpenter and cared for Jesus and Mary. May his intercession guide and protect all workers,
granting them strength, wisdom,
and a sense of purpose in their labour. Amen

𝘋𝘰𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘩 & 𝘗𝘢𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘺 𝘋𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘴

Catherine Benincasa was born in Siena, Italy in 1347, the youngest of twenty five children. Inspired by divine grace, she vowed her virginity to God while still a small girl and after overcoming the objections of her family, she pursued a life of prayer and penance as a Sister of Penance of St. Dominic.

​She continued in this way of life until 1370 when, in a vision, God asked her to undertake an active apostolate and became involved in the affairs of her age. Several times she was able to bring about peace among the Italian city-states and, while representing the Florentines in Avignon, was instrumental in persuading Pope Gregory XI to return to Rome, ending the so-called Avignon Captivity of the papacy.

On April 1, 1375, by divine favor she received the stigmata. The Dialogue (1378), which she left for her large family of disciples, is a masterpiece of spiritual and theological doctrine and has become a source of riches for the entire Dominican Family.

She died in Rome on April 29, 1380 and was buried in the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva. In 1970, Pope Paul VI declared her a Doctor of the Church.

27th day to Our Mother of Perpetual Help

Our Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us!

ACT OF CONSECRATION TO OUR MOTHER OF PERPETUAL HELP AND ST. ALPHONSUS
1, (Name), desiring to consecrate my self entirely to the service of the ever Blessed Virgin Mary, from whom, after God, I expect all help and assistance in life and in death, unite myself with the members of this pious Confraternity which has been erected in honor of our Blessed Mother of Perpetual Help.
And as my special patron, I choose the glorious St. Alphonsus, that he may obtain for me a true and lasting devotion to the ever Blessed Virgin, who is honored by so sweet a name.
I promise, moreover, to renew my consecration to the Holy Mother of God and St. Alphonsus on the day of
every month or the following after receiving the Holy Sacraments.
O Mother of Perpetual Help, receive me as thy servant, and grant that I may experience thy constant motherly assistance. I promise that I have recourse to thee in all my spiritual and temporal necessities. The 4th Sunday of Easter, also known as Good Shepherd Sunday.

Gospel for today: John 10:1-10
"I am the gate for the sheep... I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly."
The Gospel reminds us that Christ is our Good Shepherd who knows us by name, leads us to safety, and lays down His life for us.

*Prayer

Jesus, our Good Shepherd,
Today You call each of us by name and invite us to follow Your voice.
In a world full of noise, distractions, and false gates, help me recognize Your voice above all others.
Lead me through this day.
When I am anxious, bring me to a still waters.
When I am stray, gently call me back to Your flock.
When I face doors of choices, be my Gate and let me enter only where You lead me.
Give me courage to trust Your path, even when I cannot see the pastures ahead.
Help me listen to Your voice, not just with my ears, but with my heart.
And may the life You came to give us, is a life to the fulfilled, overflow from me to everyone I meet today.
I place my family, my duties, and my worries in Your care.
You are my Shepherd; I shall not want.

160th Years of Making Her, Making Him Known

(Rome) The Public Veneration of the Icon of Mother of Perpetual Help began in the Church of St. Alphonsus, Rome, on the 26th of April, 1866. This year April 26, marks the 158th Anniversary of the public veneration of the Icon, which was handed over to the Redemptorists by Pope Pius IX.
