PENTECOST SUNDAY

Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit
and they shall be created,
and you shall renew
the face of the earth.

Let us pray.
O God, who have taught
the hearts of the faithful
by the light of the Holy Spirit,
grant that in the same Spirit
we may be truly wise
and ever rejoice in his consolation. Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Feast of Our Lady of Fatima is celebrated annually on May 13, marking the first apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children—Lucia Santos and Blessed Francisco and Jacinta Marto—in Fátima, Portugal, on May 13, 1917. She appeared six times in 1917, urging prayer, repentance, and the daily Rosary for world peace.

This is the Fatima Prayer, also known as the

"O My Jesus forgive us our sins save us from the fire of hell, and lead all souls into heaven, especially those in most need of Your Divine Mercy"

prayer, commonly recited at the end of each decade of the Rosary.

REMEMBERING POPE FRANCIS ON
HIS FIRST DEATH ANNIVERSARY

On April 21, we remember the first death anniversary of Pope Francis—a shepherd whose life and ministry left a lasting mark on the Church and the world.

Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, he would one day rise to become the 266th pope of the Catholic Church. Elected on March 13, 2013, he made history as the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit to assume the papacy. From the very beginning, his leadership reflected simplicity, humility, and a deep concern for those often forgotten by society.

Throughout his pontificate, Pope Francis consistently called the faithful to live out the Gospel through concrete acts of mercy. He championed the poor, reached out to the marginalized, and urged global responsibility for creation—reminding the world that care for the environment is inseparable from care for humanity. His words and actions challenged both the Church and the wider world to move beyond indifference and toward compassion.

On April 21, 2025, he passed away at the age of 88 at Casa Santa Marta in Vatican City. His passing on Easter Monday—just a day after his final public appearance at Easter Mass—felt deeply symbolic: a life poured out in service, even to the very end of the Paschal celebration.

Today, as we remember him, we are invited not only to honor his memory but to continue his mission—building a Church that listens, welcomes, and walks with the people, especially those on the peripheries.

Are you not wondering…

…why the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jesus’ own Mother, was not among the women who went to the tomb early on Easter morning to complete the anointing and cleansing of His body?

Isn’t it only natural that His Mother would be the very first, eager to finish this final act of love?

Tradition offers a beautiful and profound explanation: Jesus had already appeared to His Mother first, in a private, tender encounter filled with love and consolation. She kept this joy in her heart, just as she had pondered so many mysteries throughout her life (cf. Luke 2:19, 51).

This pious belief is supported by the teachings of the saints and Doctors of the Church...

⚡St. Vincent Ferrer declared that the first apparition after the Resurrection was to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

⚡Saints such as Ambrose, Anselm, and Albert the Great, along with St. Ignatius of Loyola in his Spiritual Exercises, affirm that the Risen Lord appeared first to His Mother — not to prove the Resurrection to the doubting, but to delight and console the one who had suffered most with Him at the Cross.

⚡As Pope St. John Paul II reflected, it is legitimate to think that the Mother was probably the first person to whom the risen Jesus appeared. Her absence from the group heading to the tomb may itself be a silent witness to this intimate meeting.

⚡Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich, in her visions, described this moving encounter: At the very moment the angel descended and the earth quaked at the tomb, she saw the Risen Lord appear to His holy Mother on Mount Calvary. Jesus was transcendently beautiful and glorious. He spoke to her of all He had done in Limbo, showed her His radiant wounds, and comforted her sorrow.

Mary, overwhelmed with love, prostrated herself to kiss His sacred feet, but He tenderly raised her up. It was a moment of profound reunion between Son and Mother — the first fruits of the Resurrection shared in perfect intimacy.

✅ This has been the basis of the colorful traditional Encuentro (“encounter”) in Spanish-speaking regions, or the Salubong in the Philippines, where at dawn the images of Mary and the Risen Jesus are carried from opposite directions and meet in front of the church, reenacting this sacred encounter.

---------------------------
This Easter, let us marvel at the love of Jesus for His Mother — and for each of us. Just as He came first to console her heart, He desires to console and strengthen ours in our own trials.

"O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee!"
Happy Easter! He is Risen! Alleluia! 🙏✝️

Amen.

BIYERNES SANTO | SEMANA SANTA 2026

Fr. Mark Reyes

Sa pangunguna nila Rev. Fr. Roni at Rev. Fr.
