1 Corinthians 6:11 (KJV) "And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God."

Inspiration:
Have you ever compared your sins to someone else's sins? We know we should not do so, but we often fall into this comparison trap. However, we know that God extends forgiveness to all those who sin – even those who have sinned differently than you. Even those with the "dirtiest" sins may be "washed" clean. Those who place their trust in Jesus Christ and seek his forgiveness will be forgiven and sanctified through his name. The next time you are tempted to judge someone else's past against your own, resist! We have all been justified through Christ!

Prayer:
Dear God, it is easy to fall into comparison and believe that one sinner is worse than another. But, thank you, Lord, that your forgiveness extends beyond our human understanding. Your son's blood washed and covered all our sins – hallelujah! This heavenly justification is hard to understand, but help me to remember that your love knows no human boundaries. When I am tempted to revisit sin, remind me that I have been sanctified and set apart. May my life honor all you have done for me. In Jesus' name, amen.

Jeremiah 7:3 (KJV) Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

Jeremiah spoke to Judah, to men already dwelling in "this place. " But they could not assume they would continue to dwell in the land of promise, and God tells them they will only continue there if they repent. For the oppression of the weak and for turning from the true God to idols, God threatens judgment. But if they would "amend their ways, " that judgment could be averted.

Prayer: The nation that sins and continually presses on in rebellion and iniquity, Lord, we know you will judge. Unless a nation amends its ways, or a man amends his ways, judgment becomes inevitable. Let us not forget the source of all our national and personal blessings, and let us not think we are guaranteed them. We trust in your mercy, O Lord, and seek to turn our hearts to you. Amen.

2 Samuel 6:21 (KJV) And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.

David rejoiced greatly before the Lord with all the people as the Ark of God was moved to Jerusalem. It was an occasion of great joy, so David sang and shouted praises to God. But Michal supposed David should have been "more reserved" and "austere" and took issue with him. While all things should be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:40), it is "comely" (fitting and attractive) for the upright to utter praise to God.

Let us pray, O Lord, let us not be embarrassed or ashamed to praise you, even if others are present. Let us not do it for show, to be seen of men, nor in a truly inappropriate manner, but neither let it be that others falsely supposing our true worship is amiss stop us from worshipping you.

Galatians 6:10 (KJV) As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

God would have his children to do good to all men, but there should be also a special love and concern for doing good to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Even as members of a family care for each other, those in the family of God should look out for one another.

Let us pray. Engender in us, O Heavenly Father, a love for your children. Help us to walk in love toward all men but especially to be ready to help and give our time and effort to the household of faith. Let us act like true brothers and sisters towards those who are, in fact, our spiritual siblings.

"The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead-whom you have killed by hanging him on tree." Acts 5:30NIV

Though Jesus was always in complete control and laid down his life willingly, no man being able to take it from him by force and against his will, yet, Peter says that these wicked men "slew" (killed) Jesus and hanged him on a tree (the cross). Jesus submitted to allow them to do this to him. He could have stopped it at any time, but did not, in submission to his Father's will.

Let us pray, O Lord, we know that it was our sins that you bore on Calvary and that we are all guilty, therefore, of "slaying" you. Those who lash out at Jews as "Christ killers" forget that we all for whom he died are guilty of his death. It was our sins that put him there. But you laid down your life for us, you sheep, willingly. For the joy set before you you endured the cross. Let us endure our crosses too, Lord, for the joy you have set before us.

"Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, and that he may send Christ, who has been appointed for you even Jesus."
-Acts 3:19-20 NIV

A time of refeshing is coming from the Lord. It was prophesied long ago by God's prophets. It will come upon all the earth when the Kingdom of God appears, first for a thousand years and then on into eternity with a New Heaven and New Earth. The Jews were not wrong to expect an earthly Kingdom, for it had been promised to them, but they forgot about the spiritual nature of the Kingdom. They supposed that entrance into it could be based on being physical sons of Abraham. Instead, repentance is required to enter the Kingdom of God.

Let us pray, Lord Jesus, we wait for the coming of your glorious Kingdom to earth, for the time when all of the kingdoms of this world will become the Kingdom of Christ. Your rule will be perfectly righteous, and you will rule with a rod of iron and dash evil doers to pieces like a potter's vessel (Psalm 2). But even now, rule and reign in our hearts. Help us repent of our sins and turn to you in a true and living faith. Amen.

"When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it." Genesis 3:6 NIV

Reflection
The forbidden fruit is illustrative of temptation and sin in general. Eve took and ate what God had commanded her not to eat due to three factors: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the prideful desire to acquire "wisdom" apart from God. We too struggle in today in all three areas in striving to resist sin.

Prayer
You have promised, Lord, to always provide a door of escape when we face temptations. But we must be looking for that escape hatch and must be willing to use it. We are tempted to please our bodies, eyes, and prideful minds more than to please you; but by your grace, Lord, we can overcome every temptation that Satan may attack us with.

God created both male and female in his image. From the beginning, he made both man and woman and caused them to fellowship with him and with each other in the garden. And God gave Eve to Adam to be his wife, and this was for a picture of the Church, the bride of Christ, whom the Father would give to the Son.

Let us pray, O Lord, we know you have created men and women both in your image and for your glory. You have given them each their proper strengths and roles. Some you call to serve you as singles, and devote fuller time to your kingdom. Others you call to marriage, and this is a picture of your love for your Church. May we all be content with the calling you have called us with.
