Reading about this last night...
Many people think Cain's greatest sin was the moment he lifted a stone against Abel. But Scripture reveals something deeper. Cain did not become evil when he murdered his brother. He murdered his brother because evil was already living in his heart.
Long before the stone was lifted, jealousy had taken root. Pride had taken root. Bitterness had taken root. Resentment had taken root.
The murder was simply the fruit of a heart that had already wandered far from God. And if we are honest, the way of Cain is not always found in physical violence.
Sometimes it is found in the words we speak. Sometimes it is found in the silent resentment we carry. Sometimes it is found in the criticism we justify. Sometimes it is found in the joy we secretly feel when someone else's ministry fails, when someone else's influence decreases, or when someone else's blessing doesn't match our expectations.
Cain hated Abel because Abel's righteousness exposed the darkness in his own heart. And sadly, that spirit still exists today.
Instead of celebrating what God is doing in others, we compare. Instead of praying for one another, we compete. Instead of building one another up, we tear one another down.
A tongue can become a stone. A gossip-filled conversation can become a murder weapon. A critical post can wound more deeply than we realize.
John tells us that the evidence of spiritual life is not merely correct doctrine, church attendance, ministry activity, or religious knowledge. The evidence is love. Real love, Costly love, Sacrificial love.
The children of Cain destroy their brothers. The children of God lay down their lives for their brothers. Cain took a life. Jesus gave His life...And every day, we are choosing which path we will walk.
The way of Cain seeks to exalt self. The way of Christ crucifies self.
The way of Cain tears down. The way of Christ restores.
The way of Cain wounds. The way of Christ heals.
Perhaps the greatest danger is that we can sing worship songs, quote Bible verses, serve in ministry, and still carry a Cain-like spirit in our hearts.
And May God search us deeply...May He expose every hidden jealousy, every bitterness, every critical spirit, every secret resentment. And may He replace them with the love of Christ.
Because at the end of the day, the question is not how much theology we know. The question is whether we love as Jesus loved.
The world does not need more Christians who are skilled at winning arguments. The world needs more believers who look like Jesus. Believers who choose the cross instead of pride. Humility instead of competition. Blessing instead of criticism. Love instead of hatred.
For wherever the spirit of Cain dies,..the life of Christ begins to shine ❤️🔥
