Lesson 7 — A Portrait of Love

Memory Text:
"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." — 1 Corinthians 13:13

Lesson 7 emphasizes that genuine Christian love is the foundation of our relationship with God and other people. Paul reminded the Corinthians that spiritual gifts, knowledge, faith, and even acts of service have little significance if they are not driven by love.

Sunday – The Importance of Love
Love is more valuable than talents, spiritual gifts, or accomplishments. Without love, even the greatest acts of faith and sacrifice lose their true meaning.

Monday – The Characteristics of Love
God’s love is patient, kind, truthful, compassionate, hopeful, and enduring. It seeks the welfare of others and remains faithful through challenges.

Tuesday – What Love Avoids
True love is not jealous, proud, selfish, rude, easily angered, or resentful. It does not delight in wrongdoing or the failures of others. Believers should ask God to remove these attitudes from their hearts.

Wednesday – Jesus as the Example of Love
Jesus perfectly demonstrated agape love through His life. He showed patience, kindness, forgiveness, endurance, and selfless concern for others. By focusing on Christ, we can reflect His love in our own lives.

Thursday – Faith, Hope, and Love
Faith and hope are important for our journey as Christians, but love lasts forever. Because of its eternal nature, love is the greatest among the three.

Main Message
Love is more than an emotion—it is a lifestyle. Genuine Christian love is shown through kindness, patience, forgiveness, caring actions, and selfless service. As the Holy Spirit works in us, we become more like Jesus and learn to love as He loves.

Key Thought: ❤️
Since God is love, every Christian should seek to receive His love and share it with others every day.

Happy Sabbath!

1 Corinthians 12, 13, and 14 provide a complete picture of spiritual gifts, love, and the proper use of these gifts in the church.

📖 1 Corinthians 12 — Different Gifts, One Body

Paul teaches that there are different spiritual gifts, but they all come from the same Spirit—the Holy Spirit.

Examples of spiritual gifts:

• Word of wisdom
• Word of knowledge
• Faith
• Gifts of healing
• Miraculous powers
• Prophecy
• Discernment of spirits
• Different kinds of tongues
• Interpretation of tongues

Key lesson:
Not every believer has the same gift, but every gift is valuable. Just as the body has many parts, the church has many members with different gifts.

"For just as the body is one and has many parts..." — 1 Corinthians 12

Point: Spiritual gifts are not given to show who is more important. They are given for the benefit of everyone.

❤️ 1 Corinthians 13 — Love Is Greater Than All Gifts

Here we find Paul's most famous teaching about love.

Even if we:

• Speak in tongues
• Prophesy
• Have great faith
• Give away all our possessions

If we do not have love, our actions are meaningless.

Love is:

• Patient
• Kind
• Not jealous
• Not proud
• Not selfish
• Not easily angered
• Does not delight in evil
• Rejoices in the truth
• Always protects, trusts, hopes, and perseveres

Key lesson:
Love is the proper way to use all spiritual gifts.

Therefore, 1 Corinthians 13 is not only a chapter about romantic love. In its context, it is Paul's answer to the problem of people using spiritual gifts without genuine love.

🗣️ 1 Corinthians 14 — Prophecy and Tongues

Paul explains that spiritual gifts should be used to strengthen and build up the church.

"Pursue love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy." — 1 Corinthians 14:1

The gift of tongues

Speaking in tongues has value, but if no one understands it, it does not build up the whole congregation.

Therefore, if someone speaks in tongues publicly, there should be an interpretation so that everyone can understand.

The gift of prophecy

Prophecy plays an important role in strengthening, encouraging, and comforting believers.

For this reason, Paul emphasizes communication that can be understood by everyone during public worship.

Happy Sabbath!

Sabbath School Lesson Summary

Week: Knowledge, Love, and Avoiding Idolatry
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 8–10
Memory Verse: "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." — 1 Corinthians 10:31

Main Message

This week's lesson reminds us that true Christianity is not based on knowledge alone but on love. Knowledge without love can lead to pride, while love leads us to care for others and remain faithful to God. Idolatry is not limited to worshiping statues—it is anything that takes God's rightful place in our hearts.

Sunday – Knowledge Guided by Love (1 Corinthians 8:1–13)

Paul teaches that knowledge without love can harm others. Even if we have the freedom to do something, we should be willing to set aside our rights if our actions could weaken another believer's faith.

Monday – Love That Sacrifices (1 Corinthians 9:1–6)

Paul chose not to exercise certain rights as an apostle so that nothing would hinder the preaching of the gospel. Genuine love is willing to sacrifice personal privileges for the good of others.

Tuesday – Learning from Israel's Example (1 Corinthians 10:1–13)

Although God greatly blessed Israel, many fell because of idolatry, immorality, and complaining. Their story serves as a warning for us today. God is always faithful and provides a way to overcome temptation.

Wednesday – Flee from Idolatry (1 Corinthians 10:14–22)

Paul urges believers to avoid every form of idolatry. We cannot serve both God and anything that competes for our devotion. God deserves our wholehearted love and loyalty.

Thursday – Living for God's Glory (1 Corinthians 10:23–11:1)

Everything we do should honor God and benefit others. Even things that are lawful may need to be avoided if they could cause someone else to stumble in their faith.

Key Lessons

• Let knowledge always be guided by love.
• Love often requires sacrifice.
• Learn from Israel's mistakes and remain faithful.
• Avoid every form of idolatry.
• Live in a way that brings glory to God and blesses others.

Practical Application

Idolatry is not only about idols or images. It can also be money, success, work, technology, entertainment, relationships, or even ourselves—anything we value more than God.

As followers of Christ, we are called to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbors as ourselves. When we make every decision for God's glory and the good of others, we grow in faithfulness and reflect Christ's love.

Happy Sabbath! May God bless you as you study His Word and live each day for His glory.

We Say NO to PAX Silica

To destroy nature in the name of development is a tragic lie. Progress should never come at the cost of our environment. We choose a future where development and nature go hand in hand. Let us protect our ancestral roots, our natural resources, and our future.

Our home is not for sale. We, the Filipino people, are not for sale.

Happy Sabbath!

Sabbath School Lesson – Quarter 3
Sin in the Church
July 18–24, 2026

1 Corinthians 5:1
"It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that even the Gentiles do not tolerate."

God calls His church to remain holy and faithful. When a member falls into sin, the church should lovingly follow Christ's instruction in Matthew 18. Church discipline is not meant to condemn but to restore and protect the unity of God's people. Without order and biblical guidance, the church cannot remain strong and united.

As Christians, we must be careful with our thoughts, choices, and relationships. Proverbs 4:23 reminds us to guard our hearts because our lives are shaped by what we allow into them. We should also avoid situations that may lead us into temptation and be wise in our affections.

Finally, Philippians 4:8 encourages us to focus on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. When our minds are centered on these things, our lives will better reflect the character of Christ.

Have a blessed and peaceful Sabbath! 🙏
