October 4 | Memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, Religious
Saint Francis was noted for his charismatic personality, deep compassion for all, and love for God's creation.
He renounced wealth to follow ''Lady Poverty." He became deacon. He also founded the Order of Friars Minor (OFM), the Poor Clares, and the Third Order. He wrote the Canticle of the Sun.
He received the stigmata on September 14, 1224. He died on October 3, 1226. He was canonized only two years after his death.
He was proclaimed patron of ecologists and of Italy.
