Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God | January 1, 2026

On the first day of the year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, a feast that honors Mary’s divine motherhood of our Lord Jesus Christ. This solemnity affirms the central truth of the faith, that Jesus is truly God and truly man and that Mary is rightly called Theotokos, the Mother of God.

In the Philippines, this day is a Holy Day of Obligation, calling the faithful to participate in the Holy Mass. As we begin a new year, the Church invites us to place our lives, families, and hopes under Mary’s maternal care, seeking her intercession and guidance.

Celebrating this solemnity also reminds us that the new year begins not only with resolutions but also with gratitude, prayer, and trust in God’s providence. Through Mary, we are led closer to her Son, thanking the Lord for the blessings of the past year and entrusting the coming year to His loving mercy.

In today’s Gospel John 20:19-23, Jesus appears to His disciples and greets them with the words, “Peace be with you.” He breathes the Holy Spirit upon them to guide and strengthen them in their mission. As you begin to lead the ministry, may you always remember that Christ grants you His peace and strength, enabling you to serve with courage and love.

May God bless you abundantly as you begin this new chapter of service. May He grant you wisdom, strength, and compassion as you lead and serve the community with faith and dedication. Congratulations and God bless.

Yesterday, as we sponsor the Holy Mass together with the Parish Youth Ministry, we are reminded of the beautiful message in the Gospel of John 14:23-29.

Jesus tells us, “If you love me, you will keep my word, and my Father will love you.”

This reminds us that true love for God is shown through our actions. When we choose kindness, patience, and faith each day, we invite God into our hearts.

Jesus also promises us His peace, a peace the world cannot give. In the middle of life’s worries and struggles, His peace brings calm and strength.

Let us carry this message with us today that If we keep His word and live with love, God stays with us and fills our hearts with peace.

As part of the ongoing formation of the Ministry of Altar Servers, we successfully held our OGF session for the month of May with the theme: “Living with Purpose: Strengthening Self-Awareness for Service.”

This session aimed to help us reflect on our personal values, understand how they influence our decisions, and align our attitudes and behaviors with the responsibilities of altar service and Christian discipleship.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our facilitators, Mrs. Maria Fe S. Mahinay, RCG, RPm, and Ms. Mary Ann A. Orantes, LPT, for their invaluable guidance and inspiration throughout the day. The experience was both enriching and empowering, deepening our commitment to serve the Lord with purpose and heart.
