An ugly spirit is hovering all over the world. One can sense it, see it, everywhere. It's called ANGER.
The strange thing is.. We can be angry at someone we don't even know. We get angry if we don't get our way. We get angry for flimsy reasons. Anger can be taught. It can even be inherited or passed on.
The dangerous thing is.. Anger unrestrained breeds hatred. Isn't this how war starts? Isn't this how rebellion starts? Isn't this how division starts?
The first anger was recorded in Genesis 4:5, Cain got angry, very angry, at his brother Abel when God rejected Cain and his offering.

Many would theorize that Cain offered a wrong gift, or an unsubstantial one. Abel brought a lamb, a firstborn among his flock. Some would argue that God preferred an animal sacrifice because blood had to be spilled. But Cain was a farmer, Abel was a shepherd. It would be natural to offer something you have. So Cain offered a portion of his harvested crops. Some Bible scholars even pointed to the words that Cain "presented ๐จ๐ค๐ข๐ of his crops" for being lacking. But the Bible didn't say that. Let's read on..

God rejected Cain, not because of the gift alone - It was both Cain ๐๐ฃ๐ the gift as pointed out in verse 5. The Bible didn't give us the details, but I believe it had something to do with the condition of Cain's heart. Why did God reject the giver and the gift? Because there was something else - An encroaching sin. I don't wish to speculate, but I would venture to say that Cain was harboring ill feelings and simmering anger toward his brother.
God told Cain, "Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you." Cain had anger issues, a sibling rivalry that grew sinister in nature. God didn't just look at Cain's gift, God also looked at his heart. God instructed him to "subdue it and be its master.โ
God didn't tell Cain not to get angry, but to subdue it. Not to let it control him! As Paul wrote..

But we all know what happened next. Cain let the devil take a foothold and committed premeditated murder. And God's rejection was the match that lit the fuse. Cain wasn't able to control it, much less to subdue it. Anger and murder took over.
And we all have been angry ever since. Rejection can bring it to the surface.
Do you know that we lost something because of uncontrolled anger? Something very vital. Something eternal. Check this out, before all of this happened...

We all know this. Or do we? Yes, we were created originality in God's image. But look deeper. After Abel was murdered and Cain banished, Adam and Eve had another son, Seth. And look at what the Bible says..

We became the image of Adam. The image of the fallen man. After Cain murdered Abel, we lost God's image! The image originally given to all mankind. Disobedience and unbridled anger drove us to the path of destruction, rebellion and hate.
But there is hope. God has opened a way for us to restore His image in us - By coming to Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the image of God! For us to be restored in God's image, we need to ask God for forgiveness of our sins and accept the gift of salvation through His grace by believing in His Son, Jesus. So we are no longer in the image of the first Adam. We are restored in the image of the second Adam, Jesus!
Trust God. Obey Him. Love Him. Love others. Disobedience has no place in faith, no place in God's throne. Anger has no place in love, no place in God's presence.
So, don't let anger control you. Subdue it and be its master. Keep God's image through Jesus Christ.. today and forever.
