Whatsoever he doeth shall prosper

People always look for prosperity and success to the point that others have invested their time and resources to accumulate experience and gather all the knowledge to make their decisions right and bring them success.��David shows how a person can prosper.��A person whose delight is in the law of the Lord and who meditates it day and night.

Psalm 1:2 KJV
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

And in the book of Joshua it shows that meditating on the word of God results in obeying the word of God, which brings us to prosper and have good success.

Joshua 1:8 KJV
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

David also shows how a person who meditates on the word of God (reading, understanding, and obeying) is like a tree that is planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season, and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

As Christians, we should be reminded that it is God who gives success, and He is giving it to those people who obey Him.

Deuteronomy 11:27 KJV
A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day:

If we really want that whatsoever we are doing shall prosper then the word of God teaches us that we should meditate the word of God (read, understand, obey).

The end is better than the beginning

At the end of Job’s sufferings, God arranges things in the life of Job.��God judges Job’s friends for the wrong things they have said to Job and instructs them to go to Job and ask him to pray for them so they can be forgiven.

Job 42:7-8 KJV
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. [8] Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

God gave twice as much as Job had before his sufferings.

Job 42:10 KJV
And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.

God brought back the people around Job, and they gave Job a piece of money and everyone an earring of gold.

Job 42:11 KJV
Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.

God blessed Job with seven sons and three daughters.

God blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning.

Job 42:12 KJV
So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

As Christians, we should be reminded that it always pays to obey God whatever season it is, whether in times of gladness or in times of sorrow, in times of wellness or in times of hardships, as God is righteous, and He will reward us according to what we have done.��Job feared and obeyed God before he suffered, and even when he suffered, he still feared God and obeyed Him; therefore, God had made his end better than his beginning.

Job in his anguish seek God so he can bring up his cause to God and ask God reasons for his sufferings.

Job 23:2-5 KJV
Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. [3] Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! [4] I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. [5] I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

But when God spake to Him in a whirlwind.

Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said, [2] Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

Job wasn't able to speak before God, as he understood who God is and what his condition was before God, that he was vile; hence, he laid his hand upon his mouth, as he could not further answer God.

Then Job answered the LORD, and said, [4] Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. [5] Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Sometimes our sufferings lead us to seek God so we can bring up our heartaches and hardships, which is not wrong, but as we understand who God is, it makes us humble enough to keep silent and accept the things that we are going through as we understand how vile we are before God and underserving of anything.��There are a few Christians who believe that when they go to heaven, they can ask God about their sufferings and why they happen, but like Job, when we hear and see the presence of God, it is enough to make us keep our mouths shut and to acknowledge that we cannot talk of our sufferings before God.��It is our privilege to call on God for comfort and help, and there’s no greater comfort that is enough for us to keep still and silent than to be reminded who God is: “Be still and know that I am God."

Judgment and Righteousness

During the tribulation period God will send His judgment against those who oppose themselves against God.

Revelation 16:1-4 KJV
And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. [2] And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image. [3] And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea. [4] And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

Which shows the righteousness of God that brings them to judgment.

Revelation 16:5-7 KJV
And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus. [6] For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy. [7] And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.

Many teachers today will only teach how God is love and how He is merciful and gracious but forget to teach the righteousness of God and the judgment of God.

In the book of Ezra, Ezra shows how God is righteous and how the judgments of God poured unto them because of their sins, and God is righteous in His judgments.

And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this; [14] Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping? [15] O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.

Yes, our God is merciful and gracious and slow to anger, but it does not mean that God will acquit the wicked and will not punish them who have done wrong.

Nahum 1:3 KJV
The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Colossians 3:25 KJV
But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

As Christians we must remember that God is righteous and His judgments are right, which will always lead us to fear Him and always choose to do what is right in the eyes of God.

Great is the Lord

Elihu one of Job’s friend talked about the greatness of God that will lead any man to fear Him

God thundereth marvellously with his voice and he doeth great things which we cannot comprehend.

Job 37:5 KJV
God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.

God controls the seasons and weather, which man can only forecast and not even predict exactly what season will prevail and where it came from.

Job 37:6,9-11 KJV
For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. [9] Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north. [10] By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. [11] Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

God’s work is great that we cannot even explain how it is done.

Job 37:14-18 KJV
Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. [15] Dost thou know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine? [16] Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge? [17] How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind? [18] Hast thou with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?

Understanding the greatness of God will lead men to fear Him.

Job 37:23-24 KJV
Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. [24] Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

When we look at the creation and how creation is maintained, we can clearly see how great God is, and God’s greatness should make us humble to fear Him and to submit to Him.

Understanding the greatness of God will make us understand that God’s way is incomprehensible hence we should trust Him and obey Him.

As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.

One thing we can only say if we are being reminded of the greatness of God is “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised: he also is to be feared above all gods”

Psalms 136 shows how the things in our life happened because God’s mercy endureth forever.

From the creation of this world

Psalm 136:5-9 KJV
To him that by wisdom made the heavens: for his mercy endureth for ever. [6] To him that stretched out the earth above the waters: for his mercy endureth for ever. [7] To him that made great lights: for his mercy endureth for ever: [8] The sun to rule by day: for his mercy endureth for ever: [9] The moon and stars to rule by night: for his mercy endureth for ever.

To the deliverance and sustenance in our daily lives

To him that smote Egypt in their firstborn: for his mercy endureth for ever: [11] And brought out Israel from among them: for his mercy endureth for ever: [12] With a strong hand, and with a stretched out arm: for his mercy endureth for ever. To the comfort and consolation that we have experience in this life.

And to all things that we have in this life

Who giveth food to all flesh: for his mercy endureth for ever.

We have all of this because God’s mercy endureth forever; if it were not because of His mercy, we would have already perished and been doomed, but because of His mercy that endureth forever, we are still living and still receiving blessings in this life.

The Psalmist begins the chapter in giving thanks to God and ends it still in giving thanks to God because His mercy endureth forever.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. [26] O give thanks unto the God of heaven: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Recognizing how God’s mercy endureth forever will always lead us to give thanks to God in all aspects and situations of this life.

When we commit sin

Elihu talked to Job about the consequences when we do sin.��When we do wickedness, the consequences of it affect not only us but also the people around us.

Job 35:8 KJV
Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

When we disobey, we choose punishment instead of prosperity.

Job 36:11-12 KJV
If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. [12] But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

When we choose to commit sin, we choose affliction.

Job 36:21 KJV
Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

As Christians, temptation is always there to tempt us to commit sin, but the word of God is reminding us that committing sin is not a small thing because in choosing to do sin, we make our lives miserable, and even the people around us will be affected.��Therefore, one of the things that keep us away from sin is acknowledging the consequences of it, as sometimes its consequences are not executed speedily; therefore, we may think there’s no punishment, and then we continue to sin, not realizing sin is like a credit card: spend now, pay later.

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

We should always remind ourselves that we should never choose to commit sin as it will destroy and hurt us and will bring us no good thing.

Great and Marvelous

In the book of Revelation those who have gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name will worship God.

Revelation 15:2 KJV
And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

And they will sing about the great and marvelous works of God.

Revelation 15:3-4 KJV
And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. [4] Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.

We as Christians have victory over sin through our Lord Jesus Christ; we have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, we have been forgiven of our sins, and we have been justified by faith.

Our salvation is God’s work, and we should always see how marvelous it is: His promise, His love, His sacrifice, His mercy, and His grace.

Matthew 21:42-43 KJV
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? [43] Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.

And it should always lead us to praise God and to worship God as we recognize the great and marvelous work that God has done for us.

Courtesy and Respect

Elihu was the youngest among Job’s friends, and he waited till Job had spoken because they were older than he.

Job 32:4 KJV
Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

And he understands how the younger should treat the elder.

Job 32:6 KJV
And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.

One thing that the Bible teaches is how we should show courtesy to other people.

1 Peter 3:8 KJV
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:

Sometimes we can't control our emotions so much that we forget to show courtesy to other people, which results in even when we speak what is right, it leads us to have bad testimony because we become disrespectful.��If our doctrine is right, then it should be reflected also in our attitude; it is not right that we claim that we are in the truth but our attitude shows the contrary to what we claim.��The word of God teaches us to behave accordingly to what God commands us to do and to show how the word of God changes us that we learn how to show courtesy and respect to all.
