Social Action Commission, Diocese of Mati โ A wave of renewed commitment and passion swept through the Diocese of Mati on February 28th and March 1st, 2026, as 56 dedicated individuals from across its parishes converged for the Basic Orientation Seminar on Social Action Works (BOSSAW). This pivotal two-day event, facilitated by Sweet Cruz-Racho from Caritas Philippines, has set a new course for social action within the Diocese, fostering a dynamic and resilient Social Action Commission poised to respond to the needs of the marginalized.
With an astounding 100% representation from all four vicariates and only one parish absent out of 22, the overwhelming attendance underscored a profound desire for deeper engagement. The participants, comprising Parish Social Action Coordinators and vital members of Parish Pastoral Councils (PPC), revealed a hunger for knowledge, with many attending BOSSAW for the very first time. One participant, a Parish Social Action Coordinator, candidly admitted a "zero knowledge" starting point, highlighting the urgent need and profound impact of this foundational seminar. The collective gratitude and appreciation for BOSSAW were palpable, as attendees unanimously recognized its immense value in strengthening their Parish Social Action Centers (PSACs) and empowering their sacred mission to serve the poor and vulnerable.
The seminar delved into the fundamental "WHAT, HOW, and WHY" of Social Action, anchoring its principles firmly in the Catholic Social Teachings. This foundational emphasis served as a powerful reminder of the Church's authentic call to be a "Church of the Poor," actively serving and uplifting those on the fringes of society.
