Today, we honor Saint Augustine, a Doctor of the Church and one of Christianity's most influential theologians. Born in 354 at Tagaste in Africa, he was brought up in the Christian faith by his devout mother, Saint Monica, though he was not baptized as a youth. An ambitious on schoolboy of brilliant talents and violent passions, he early lost both his faith and his moral innocence, persisting in an irregular life well into his adulthood. While serving as a professor of rhetoric in Milan at thirty-two years of age, the faith of his childhood regained possession of his intellect, though he found himself trapped by the chains of old habit.

Stung to the heart by the accounts of sudden conversions, he cried out, "𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙪𝙣𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙚, 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙡𝙞𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚." Withdrawing into a garden in deep inner turmoil, he heard the voice of a child chanting, "Take and read." Opening the Scriptures, his eyes fell upon the exhortation to "𝙒𝙖𝙡𝙠 𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙙𝙖𝙮," and the long battle for his soul was finally won.

Following his transformation, Augustine received holy baptism, returned home to Africa, and gave all his possessions to the poor. Settling in Hippo, he was consecrated bishop in 395 and served for thirty-five years as the center of ecclesiastical life in Africa and the Church's mightiest champion against heresy. His profound writings continue to be revered worldwide as a foundational source of devotional thought and theological speculation. He entered eternal life in 430.

On this feast day, may we learn from Saint Augustine that no soul is ever too lost for God's grace, that true wisdom lies in surrendering our hearts to divine truth, and that our hearts will remain restless until they finally rest in Him.

The remains of Bro. Lamberto Duaso Tena, SDB, have arrived at Don Bosco Formation Center – Lawaan, where members of the Salesian community, formandi, and friends may come together to pray and pay their respects.

With profound sorrow, we mourn the passing of 𝑩𝒓𝒐. 𝑳𝒂𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒐 𝑻𝒆𝒏𝒂, 𝑺𝑫𝑩, who peacefully returned to the loving embrace of the Father on August 25, 2026, at the age of 87.

His life was a quiet testament to faith and service for the Salesian mission. Through the years, his presence touched the lives of many and became a reminder that a life dedicated to God is a life that continues to bear fruit even beyond this world.

As we commend his soul to God's eternal mercy, may we also give thanks for the gift of his life and the memories he leaves behind.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

May you find eternal peace and everlasting rest, Bro. Tena.

Karong adlawa, gipahinumdoman kita nga ang atong Simbahan usa. Dili kini nagkalain-lain kay kita gihiusa sa Espiritu Santo. Ang pagtukod sa simbahan dili lahi sa uban. Usa ra ang atong simbahan, usa ra ang Misa, usa ang atong pagtuo.

Apan perpekto ba ang atoang Simbahan? Giingon ni Fr. Genson nga kung perpekto na kita, wala na unta maghunahuna ang Ginoo sa pagtukod og Simbahan. Ang Simbahan dili ginama sa mga perpektong tawo. Ginama kini sa mga nanginahanglan sa Dios, sa mga nagtinguha sa kaluwasan, ug sa mga nakaila sa ilang mga limitasyon.

Balaan ang Simbahan dili tungod kay walay sala ang mga miyembro niini, kondili tungod kay si Kristo, nga balaan, mao ang ulohan niini. Kini usa ka ospital para sa mga makasasala, dili usa ka museyo para sa mga santos. Moari kita sa Simbahan dili tungod kay maayo na kita, kondili tungod kay kinahanglan nato nga mahimong maayo pinaagi sa grasya sa Dios.

Mapainubsanong nangayo og pasaylo usab si Fr. Genson sa bisan unsang kakulangan sa ilang pagserbisyo isip mga pari. Kini ang matahom nga kamatuoran sa Simbahan: kitang tanan dili perpekto, apan kitang tanan gitawag sa pagtubo sa pagkabalaan. Nanginahanglan kita sa presensya sa Dios matag adlaw.

Padayon kita sa pag-ampo alang sa atong Simbahan, nga magpabilin kita nga matinumanon sa pagsimba ug pag-alagad. Hinumduman nato nga kita ang Simbahan, ug kita gitawag nga mahimong instrumento sa gugma ug kalooy sa Dios sa kalibutan.

𝐀𝐔𝐆𝐔𝐒𝐓 24 | 𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐓 𝐁𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐖 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐏𝐎𝐒𝐓𝐋𝐄

Today, we honor Saint Bartholomew, one of the twelve apostles chosen by our blessed Lord Himself. Several learned interpreters of Holy Scripture identify this apostle with Nathaniel, a native of Cana in Galilee, a doctor in the Jewish law, and one of the seventy-two disciples of Christ. He was conducted to the Lord by Saint Philip, and his innocence and simplicity of heart deserved to be celebrated by the very mouth of our Redeemer, who declared him to be "𝙖𝙣 𝙄𝙨𝙧𝙖𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙙, 𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤 𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙚."

Bartholomew is mentioned among the disciples who gathered together in prayer after Christ's Ascension, and he received the Holy Spirit with the rest on the day of Pentecost. Being eminently qualified by divine grace to discharge the functions of an apostle, he carried the Gospel, according to various ancient traditions, through the most barbarous countries of the East, penetrating even into the remoter Indies. He returned again to the northwest part of Asia and met Saint Philip at Hierapolis in Phrygia. From there, he traveled into Lycaonia, where he instructed the people in the Christian Faith, though we know not even the names of many of the lands in which he preached.

Saint Bartholomew's final mission took him into Great Armenia, where, preaching in a place obstinately addicted to the worship of idols, he was crowned with a glorious martyrdom. Modern Greek historians record that he was condemned by the governor of Albanopolis to be crucified. Others affirm that he was flayed alive, a punishment that may well have accompanied his crucifixion, as this double form of torture was in use not only in Egypt but also among the Persians.

On this feast day, may we learn from Saint Bartholomew to bear witness to Christ with courage and simplicity of heart, to persevere in spreading the Gospel even in the face of hostility, and to offer our lives, whether in daily sacrifice or in final trial, as a gift of love to the One who first called us by name.

The formators from Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish gathered earlier this morning with eager hearts for a mission to spread the Gospel of God to GKK Guang-guang and GKK Martinez. Armed with prayer and joyful determination, they used their Time, Talent, and Treasures to be good examples in this world, a world decaying from the smell of wavering faiths and beliefs.

The 3T’s and 7K’s were imprinted deeply in the minds of the participants to teach them the way of life: to seek God and to put Him first, the only center of our lives. Through heartfelt testimonies that carry deep wisdom, the formators slowly helped uncover their lives and encouraged them to apply this lesson, these words, to their daily walk. It was a step-by-step process in building their own lives that center on God and serve Him with purpose and love.

These instruments’ lessons became the sword to fight against worldly things and to set their feet upon the right path—the right way of life.

​Spending time on the ground with the community in Butuasan Zone 6 today was a deeply rewarding and eye-opening experience. True stewardship is far more than just a task on a checklist; it is about recognizing that taking care of our environment, supporting our neighbors, and building up the spaces we call home is a collective duty we all share.

​Seeing everyone unite for Zone 6, working side-by-side under the sun, sharing laughs, offering encouragement, and giving their absolute best, was a powerful reminder of the strength found in solidarity. From every small task completed to every large effort tackled, today proved that when a community chooses to show up for one another, remarkable things happen. We aren't just maintaining a physical space; we are cultivating a culture of respect, accountability, and genuine care for the generations to come.

​A big, heartfelt thank you to every single person who dedicated their time, energy, and hands to the cause today. Your hard work did not go unnoticed, and together, we’ve left Butuasan Zone 6 brighter, cleaner, and better than we found it.
