On May 2, 2026, the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral SOCCOM successfully conducted a Seminar and Workshop at the San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral.
The morning session formally started with the opening remarks of Eva Calig-onan, SOCCOM Coordinator of the cathedral. This was followed by an inspiring talk from Rev. Fr. Uldarico Toroba Jr., DCM, Parish Rector of San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral, who emphasized the mission and significance of SOCCOM in the Church. He highlighted its vital role in evangelization and communication within the faith community.
The session continued with an informative discussion by John Carlo Balante, SOCCOM Coordinator of the Diocese of Mati. He provided a deeper understanding of SOCCOM โ its origins, purpose, and the roles and responsibilities of its members in effectively serving the Church through media and communication.
In the afternoon, the session opened with an engaging talk on photography delivered by Dessa Mae Tagliong, Camera Team Head of the Diocese of Mati. She shared practical tips and techniques on capturing meaningful and impactful images, especially in the context of Church events and ministry.
This was followed by a session on news writing conducted by Nicole Palmera, News Writing Team Head of the Diocese of Mati. She discussed the fundamentals of writing clear, accurate, and compelling news articles, emphasizing the importance of responsible storytelling.
Next, Loraine Joie Juaton, Graphics and Pubmat Team Head, led a discussion on graphic design and publication materials. She highlighted the importance of visual communication and shared essential principles in creating effective and engaging pubmats for Church activities.
The event concluded with a hands-on workshop and output-making session. Participants were divided into groups and applied what they had learned throughout the seminar. Each group demonstrated creativity, collaboration, and effort in producing outputs that reflected the skills and knowledge they gained.
The seminar and workshop proved to be a meaningful and enriching experience, equipping participants with valuable skills in communication, media, and service for the Church.
