St. John the Baptist, son of Zechariah and Elizabeth and known as the cousin of Jesus, is known for baptizing in the Jordan River and preaching. He courageously stood for Godโ€™s laws and called people to repentance, faith, and conversion, preparing the way for the Savior. Moreover, he spoke against immorality, even when it placed his life in danger. His martyrdom reminds us of the courage to defend the truth and remain faithful to God until the end.

This Gospel is the courage of John the Baptist to speak the truth. John knew that telling Herod, "It is not lawful," could bring consequences, but he did not change the truth just because it was difficult or dangerous. The Gospel also shows the danger of allowing pride, anger, promises, and the desire to please others to influence our decisions.

We commemorate today the Memorial of Saint Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, known as the famous son of Saint Monica, whose life has a beautiful story of conversion from being lost to embracing the true faith. For many years, Saint Monica patiently prayed for his conversion. Through her prayers, the sanctity of Milan's Bishop Ambrose, the book of St. Anthony the hermit, and the sacred Scriptures, Saint Augustine found his way to God. He is one of the Church's greatest theologians, for he became a Catholic writer, a devotee, and a preacher of Good News to the people. His life is a reminder that in moments we have been lost, Godโ€™s grace never stops reaching for us and leading us back to Him.

Saint Monica, Mother of Saint Augustine of Hippo, is known for her unwavering faith, perseverance, and persistent prayers. She patiently endured years of worry and suffering as she prayed for her son, Augustine, to return to faith. Saint Monica never gave up and remained hopeful for her sonโ€™s conversion. She is an example of a mother who trusted Godโ€™s timing for the goodness of her loved one. Her life reminds us that our prayers for our families are powerful. We should never lost hope and continue to pray for them. Let us remain patient, faithful, and hopeful as we wait for our prayers to be answered and to trust Godโ€™s perfect timing.

He tells us to stay awake and remain faithful while waiting. We do not know when the Lord will come. But the Gospel shows us what we should be doing when that time comes: being faithful to what has been entrusted to us. The faithful servant was not blessed because he knew when the master would return. he was blessed because he was found doing his duty when the master arrived.

Jesus reminds us that what appears beautiful outside may not always reflect what is inside. The scribes and Pharisees appeared righteous before others, but Jesus saw the hypocrisy and evil doing within them. Even so, on the outside you appear righteous, but inside you are filled with hypocrisy and evil doing.

Jesus teaches us that we should not focus so much on the small things that we forget the things that matter more. Doing good should not only be about being seen doing good. It should come from a sincere heart. This is also a beautiful reminder that true change begins within. When the heart is clean, what is seen outside will naturally reflect what is within.

In this day, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Apostle, who was one of the Apostles of Jesus and one of the foundational stones of the Church. He is mentioned in the Synoptic Gospels as one of the apostles linked to his contemporary Philip. Saint Bartholomew travelled to many places to preach the Good News and heal the sick. His faith and dedication inspired many people to believe in Christ and embrace the Christian faith. Even in the face of persecution, his faithfulness to his mission did not fade away, showing his unwavering love for Christ and His people.

The Gospel shows us that sometimes, we may begin with questions, but when we "come and see," we can encounter Jesus for ourselves. It also reminds us not to stop at what we have already seen or experienced. Jesus tells us that greater things are still ahead.
