There are past experiences in life that always haunt us and bother us, which tend to be re-played in our minds over and over again.
We are probably tempted to go back to these old ways for pointless reasons, but understand that if we don't act to get away from them, there's still no huge difference.
Remember that it was difficult to move forward while we repeatedly preserving these sinful things.
Many people want God to make something new, but only some are willing to submit to the sanctification process. That's why they are still not transformed, even though they have already accepted Christ in their life.
Tolerating sin while in this process hinders the healing of the brokenness in your life due to the destructive impacts of wickedness.
It is true that only God can bring healing to our painful memories. Yet, it's up to us to choose whether we will hold on to the past or cling to the progress we have made now.
When God begins to shake things loose, we must not interfere as He removes old things from within. Just allow Him to cleanse you so that you know you are no longer slaves to sin but already children of God.
As we confess our helplessness to the Lord, He works to rescue us from our miserable past and sinful state to make us a new creation.
But take note that it's not ended with just one confession of the mistakes we have made. Once you have put your faith in Christ, it's time for you to submit to God and let Him work in your life to transform you.
Mistakes from the past do not define our worth; instead, they just serve as training grounds that make changes in our attitude and mindset about life that yield our life's biggest lessons while on this journey.
This mess will be turned into a message for the showcase of God's glory. Learn from it, but don't dwell on it. Learn not to repeat the same mistakes, as you're already freed by God's grace.
"Like a dog that returns to his vomit is a fool who repeats his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11 ESV )
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come."
(2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV)
