But what does that really mean?
It does not mean being perfect.
David was far from perfect. He failed God, committed serious sin, and made choices that brought painful consequences. Yet when David was confronted with his sin, he did not make excuses or run away from God. He humbled himself, confessed, and repented.
That is what made David different.
Saul repeatedly disobeyed God's instructions and eventually became hardened in his disobedience. David also failed, but he remained responsive to God's correction. When Nathan confronted him, David acknowledged his sin and cried out:
"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." โ Psalm 51:10

David loved God's Word. He meditated on it, hid it in his heart, and allowed it to guide his life:
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." โ Psalm 119:11
We need that same heart today.
When God corrects you, don't defend yourself. When you recognize sin, don't delay repentance. When you fall, don't let shame keep you away from the One who can restore you.
God does not ask us to be blameless before coming to Him.
Be quick to repent. Love His Word. Seek His presence. Let your desires become aligned with His will.
