Everybody wants the spotlight these days. Weโve made ministry look glamorous, as if influence is the evidence of intimacy and visibility is the proof of calling. Church culture has dressed up the stage, polished the microphones, and convinced many that being โanointedโ means being seen. But hear me...if you believe the spotlight is a reward for your talent, youโre not ready for it. The spotlight is not a level you reach; itโs a weight you carry. It does not just illuminate your strength; it exposes your weakness. It demands a life anchored in Scripture, shaped in hidden places, and purified in moments no one applauds. And if you step into it unprepared, the very light that draws people to you will reveal the cracks you tried to hide.
The sobering reality is that we have a generation chasing platforms but neglecting prayer closets. Many hold microphones but bear no fruit. Many have their faces on church posters, event flyers, YouTube thumbnails, and conference stages, yet their names are not known in heaven. They speak of Jesus publicly but donโt walk with Him privately. They preach forgiveness while holding grudges, sing about surrender but never actually surrender, talk about revival but donโt repent. This isnโt to shame anyone, itโs a wake-up call. The spotlight does not make you spiritual; it shows who you already are. And if Christ is not the center of your private life, the stage will only expose the emptiness behind your public one.
The truth is this: the spotlight was never created to glorify the person standing in it. Its entire purpose is to reflect the glory of God through a surrendered vessel. So if applause fuels you more than obedience, pause. If likes shape your identity more than Scripture, pause. If you crave an audience but avoid accountability, pause. If you love the rush of the stage more than the stillness of prayer, pause. This is not God punishing you, it is God protecting you. He will never give you a platform that your character cannot sustain. He will never allow your gifting to outrun your holiness. He loves you far too fiercely to let you rise publicly while collapsing privately.
Before you chase influence, chase holiness. Before you desire followers, desire purity. Before you ask God to use you in front of people, let Him break you, cleanse you, and transform you when no one is watching. Let the fire of private devotion burn hotter than the lights of any stage. Let your repentance be real, your motives be pure, your obedience be costly, and your love for Jesus be deeper than your love for ministry. Your secret life will always preach louder than your sermons, your posts, your songs, or your platforms ever could.
And when your life, both the seen and unseen parts, proves that God gets all the glory, then and only then will He entrust you with more. Because the spotlight was never meant to reveal you. It was always meant to reveal Him โค๏ธโ๐ฅ
