THE WORSHIP GOD COMMANDS
DEUTERONOMY 12

Deuteronomy 12:31-32 NIV
[31] You must not worship the Lord your God in their way, because in worshiping their gods, they do all kinds of detestable things the Lord hates. They even burn their sons and daughters in the fire as sacrifices to their gods. [32] See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.

Reflect
The Lord is the Holy God who desires His people to be holy, just as He Himself is holy and pure. He despises evil ways, such as the practices of the pagans who occupied the land that the Israelites were about to possess. He did not want His chosen people to participate in or become mixed up with these wicked practices, for they could easily be influenced to commit the same abominable acts in worship of false gods.
For us, God also demands a righteous and holy life—a lifestyle that is free from the practices of the world that may lead us into sin. God wants us to delight in things that glorify and please Him rather than in things that may lead us to sin. Since God is the same holy God, He desires us to live holy and pure lives as the fruit of our genuine faith.

Respond
God wants us to live in holiness, not participating in the ways of the world but seeking delight in things that honor and glorify Him. He wants us to walk in obedience, making sure that we do not adapt to or compromise with the ways of this world, but instead remain faithful to the Word of the Lord.

God First Daily

"A Choice of Two Paths"
Deuteronomy 11

REFLECT:
In this chapter, God is shown as an attentive Provider whose eyes are constantly on our lives from the beginning of the year to the end (v.12). He is revealed as a loving Father who doesn’t play guessing games with us—He clearly lays out the path of blessing and warns us of the heartache that comes from walking away from Him (vv.26-28). God is also deeply invested in our homes and families, wanting His truth to be woven naturally into our daily conversations so every generation experiences His goodness.

RESPOND:
The Lord wants us to understand that our daily choices carry real spiritual consequences. We need to avoid the sin of spiritual complacency—getting so comfortable with God's blessings that our hearts secretly drift toward modern idols and worldly shortcuts (v.16). The lesson for us is that loving God isn’t just a feeling; it’s an action shown through steady obedience. We are commanded to lock God’s words into our hearts and minds, actively passing them down to our children when we sit at home, walk on the road, go to bed, and wake up (vv.18-19).

We can trust God instead of being controlled by guilt or fear. When we put our faith in Jesus, we can have peace with God because Jesus has made our relationship with Him right.

BLESSINGS OF OBEDIENCE
DEUTERONOMY 7

Deuteronomy 7:12-14 NKJV
[12] “Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers. [13] And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you. [14] You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.

Reflect:
The Lord is our loving Father, who remains merciful and gracious to all His people and loves us unconditionally as we remain in Him.
Apart from the Lord, only curses and suffering await us, but abiding in Him brings blessing and peace into our lives. God promises us a life of abundance as we live for Him—not necessarily an abundance of physical things, but of spiritual blessings. When we have the Lord leading us and going before us, and as we walk in obedience to His Word, no trouble or trial in life is too difficult to overcome because we have our Almighty Father who guides, strengthens, and blesses us along the way. Nothing is greater than the love of our Almighty God.

Respond:
God wants us to love Him through continual obedience to His Word. Just as a father desires his children to follow his guidance to protect them, God desires the same for us. He wants to protect us from the consequences of sin and lead us into a deeper and more intimate relationship with Him.

This verse reminds that we should remain faithful to God even when we face distractions, temptations, or difficult choices. It reminds us that following God requires consistency and trust, especially when we are unsure of which direction to take. We should try to stay on the right path and avoid being distracted or led away from what God teaches us.

Reflect:
The Lord is a jealous God who wants His people to remain faithful to Him. He does not want them to replace Him with other things or idols. His jealousy shows how serious He is about His relationship with His people. He is also just, and He does not ignore disobedience.

Respond:
God is reminding me to keep Him first and not let anything take His place in my life. I want to stay faithful to Him and be careful not to put other things above my relationship with Him. Help me to choose You every day and remain close to You.

| GOD FIRST DAILY |

Faith Is Personal

Deuteronomy 5:3
It was not with our ancestors that the Lord made this covenant, but with us, with all of us who are alive here today.

Reflection:

This chapter shows that God desires a personal relationship with His people. His covenant is not only something from the past or something meant for previous generations; He wants each person to personally know Him, trust Him, and respond to His Word.

Respond:

Moses reminded the Israelites of the covenant God made with them. It teaches us not to treat God’s Word as something only for the past. His principles continue to guide our lives. God’s relationship with us is personal. We cannot rely only on the faith or relationship that our parents, grandparents, or other people have with God. We each need to personally accept God’s Word, trust Him, and choose to follow Him.

The world will shape us without us even trying, from being around it day after day. But growing closer to God doesn't happen by accident. We should choose to let Him change how we think for us to know what His will is for us.
