What is the Lord’s Recovery Bible Version?

The Holy Bible Recovery Version is a translation of the Bible produced under the direction of Witness Lee, based on the work begun by Watchman Nee, for the purpose of recovering the truths in God’s Word and supplying the saints in the Lord’s Recovery. “All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for conviction, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Tim 3:16). This version was not translated merely for linguistic accuracy, but to bring out God’s central thought and eternal economy, Eph 1:10, which is “to head up all things in Christ” (Eph 1:10). The text follows the Nestle-Aland Greek and Hebrew texts, with careful attention to key theological terms like economy, dispensation, dispensing, and mingling terms that express God’s move in man. The Lord told us, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32), and the Recovery Version aims to present that truth in its purity for the building up of the Body of Christ, Eph 4:12.

Second, what makes the Recovery Version unique is its extensive outlines, footnotes, and cross-references. “Open my eyes that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law” (Psa 119:18). Every book has a subject and a detailed outline showing the flow of divine revelation. The footnotes are not commentary for knowledge, but “spiritual nourishment” (1 Tim 4:6) to bring the reader into the experience of Christ as life, John 6:63. For example, the footnote on John 1:1 reveals that “the Word was God” means Christ is the very definition, explanation, and expression of God. The cross-references link related verses throughout the whole Bible, showing that “all Scripture” (2 Pet 1:20) is one organic whole. This helps the saints “rightly divide the word of the truth” (2 Tim 2:15) and “compare spiritual things with spiritual words” (1 Cor 2:13). In the church life, we use this Bible for “prayer-reading” (Eph 6:17-18), where we take the Word by means of prayer to touch the Lord as the Spirit, 2 Cor 3:6.

Third, the Recovery Version exists to serve God’s purpose in His recovery to recover Christ as everything to us and to recover the proper church life. “For the word of God is living and operative” (Heb 4:12), and this version is a tool for the Lord to work Himself into His people. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psa 119:105). In morning revival, small group meetings, and the prophesying meeting, 1 Cor 14:26, the saints open the Recovery Version together to “be constituted with the truth” (Col 3:16) and “speak the same thing” (1 Cor 1:10). The Lord’s Recovery is not a movement or a denomination, but “the recovery of the divine revelation in the Word” for the sake of His Body, Col 1:24. The ultimate goal is “that He might present the church to Himself glorious” (Eph 5:27), consummating in the New Jerusalem, Rev 21:2. Thus, this Bible is not just for study it’s for “growing with the growth of God” (Col 2:19) unto “the full knowledge of the Son of God, at a full-grown man” (Eph 4:13).

(Verse 1)
There was once in Jacob's life
When he was left alone
A man wrestled with him that night
They fought til the break of dawn
The man saw He could not win
So He touched Jacob's hip
That blow had disabled him
From then on he began to limp.

(Pre-Chorus)
Yet he held on to this man,
A man unseen, unknown
He held Him tight, would not let go
Until the blessing he bestows.

(Chorus)
I’ve been wrestling with the One,
Who never leaves, who never runs,
Touch my life, break my pride,
To my self Lord I have died
I’m broken now in my old life
I stop all struggling and strife
Lord, I’ll never be the same,
I limp, yet I have gained a new name.

(Verse 2)
Long the years of constant dealing
Yet my natural life remained
Planning, scheming, self-expressing
Still so full of my old name
Then You touched the strongest sinew
You made a big change in my life

I am broken yet I found You
You’re the strength of my new life

(Pre-Chorus)
I was shattered, I was broken
Now I see you face to face
That sight could ne'er be forgotten
All pride I now abase

(Chorus)
I’ve been wrestling with the One,
Who never leaves, who never runs,
Touch my life, break my pride,
To my self Lord I have died
I’m broken now in my old life
I stop all struggling and strife
Lord, I’ll never be the same,
I limp, yet I have gained a new name.

(Bridge)
Touch my thigh, O Lord, I pray
Deal with me, Lord, have Your way
Let me lean not on my strength
By Your grace I'll go the length
Make my steps forever limped
Proof that I have truly glimpsed
Of Peniel—Your shining face
Brightly beaming full of grace

(Chorus)
I’ve been wrestling with the One,
Who never leaves, who never runs,
Touch my life, break my pride,
To my self Lord I have died
I’m broken now in my old life
I stop all struggling and strife

Lord, I’ll never be the same,
I limp, yet I have gained a new name.

(Outro)
I limp, yet I have gained a new name.
I limp, and I’ll never be the same.
