We thank the Lord for the gift of vocation, especially for our dearest Sisters who, through their own testimonies, have become living witnesses of Christ’s love and faithfulness to those who follow Him.
Despite the ups and downs, they have shown that consecrated life is truly anchored in Christ, where perseverance and fidelity grow through their daily '‘yes'.’ It is not about how strong they are, but how deeply rooted their calling is in Christ Crucified, who continually blesses and sustains them. Truly, this is worth celebrating...may you continue to inspire us, dear Sisters.
-Love and prayer

____________________________________________________________
She was born on May 3, 1861, in Belgium, in the city of Mouscron in the Diocese of Bruges, to Giovanni Aloisio Bracaval and Sofia Dessauvages, who gave her her first moral and religious education. This formation was later completed by the Ladies of Mary, in whose school the Venerable was for some years a diligent student.

Upon returning to her family, she continued to walk in the ways of God, devoting herself to religious practices and nurturing the desire to consecrate herself to the Lord. Having refused marriage and being free from family obligations, in 1894 she left her homeland and went to Italy to enter the Monastery of the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul in Crema, who lived a cloistered life according to the norms of the Council of Trent.

She made her religious profession in 1896, and in the same year moved with the community to their new house in Milan. In 1901 she pronounced a vow of victimhood to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for her family, for the growth of her monastery, and for her confessor, Father Pio Mauri.

She was appointed novice mistress and counselor to the Prioress. In 1903, together with other sisters, she was sent to found a new house, of which she later became superior. She held the same office in the house of Arienzo, in the Diocese of Acerra.

Meanwhile, the many apostolic activities carried out by the sisters, especially for the youth, were difficult to reconcile with strict cloister. Therefore, desiring the good of her community and of souls, and with the consent of ecclesiastical superiors and the Barnabite Fathers, the Venerable worked to transform the monastery into a congregation dedicated to apostolic work and freed from the obligation of enclosure.

This project, which corresponded to the original intention of the holy Founder, St. Anthony Mary Zaccaria, was approved by Pope Benedict XV, who in 1919 converted the monastery in Arienzo into an institute of diocesan right under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Acerra.

As Superior General, the Venerable adapted the ancient Constitutions to the new form of life of the Sisters. After the union of the Angelic Sisters of Arienzo with those of Milan and Fivizzano, the General Chapter of 1926 once again entrusted her with the office of Superior General.

Completely dedicated to her institute, she fostered vocations, opened new houses and many schools in various parts of Italy and Brazil, and cared diligently and kindly for the spiritual and apostolic formation of the Sisters. She encouraged them to observe the Rule through her words, her writings, and above all through the example of her eminent virtues.

She gave a splendid example of fidelity to the Gospel and to her religious consecration, of devoted love for God and neighbor, of trust in divine Providence, and of sincere humility. United with God, she promptly obeyed His will and worked for His glory and for the building up of His Kingdom. She labored for the sanctification of her sisters and for the conversion of sinners and non-Christians. She practiced both the spiritual and corporal works of mercy toward her fellow sisters, the students of her institute, and the poor.

She always acted with prudence and justice; she was strong and patient in difficulties, self-controlled, and detached from earthly goods. She did not rely on her own strength, but on the help of grace, which she obtained through constant prayer, fervent devotion to Jesus Crucified, to the Eucharist, and to the Blessed Virgin, through the observance of her religious vows, and the faithful fulfillment of her daily duties.

After completing her term as Superior General in 1932, she was elected general councilor and treasurer, and she showed humble respect toward the new Superior of the Congregation, whom she treated with reverence and affection.

She peacefully and devoutly ended her earthly life in the house of Arienzo on January 26, 1935, venerated by her Congregation and by the people of God.

As her reputation for holiness continued, the Bishop of Acerra initiated the cause for her beatification and canonization with the ordinary informative process begun in 1953. In 1959, the decree on the writings of the Servant of God was promulgated, and in 1980 the decree introducing the Cause.

During the years 1984–1985, the apostolic process was held at the Curia of Naples. The Congregation for the Causes of Saints approved these processes with a decree dated May 24, 1991.

After the Positio was prepared, it was examined whether Mother Giovanna Maria of Jesus Eucharist had exercised the virtues to a heroic degree. On June 25, 1996, the meeting of the theological consultors concluded positively.

Finally, the Cardinals and Bishops, in the Ordinary Session of December 17 of the same year, with the Most Reverend Mario Rizzi, Titular Archbishop of Bagnoregio, as presenter of the Cause, declared that the Servant of God had exercised to a heroic degree the theological virtues, the cardinal virtues, and those connected with them.

On March 25, 1997, after a detailed report had been presented to Pope John Paul II by the Pro-Prefect Alberto Bovone, Titular Archbishop of Caesarea in Numidia, His Holiness, accepting the conclusions of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, ordered the promulgation of the decree on the heroic virtues of the Servant of God.

This having been duly carried out, on April 8, 1997, in the presence of the Pro-Prefect, the Presenter of the Cause, and the Secretary of the Congregation, Edoardo Nowak, Titular Archbishop of Luni, and all those who were to be present according to custom, the Holy Father solemnly declared:

“For the case and purposes in question, it is established that the theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity toward God and neighbor, as well as the cardinal virtues of Prudence, Justice, Temperance, and Fortitude, and those connected with them, were practiced to a heroic degree by the Servant of God Giovanna Maria of Jesus Eucharist (born Flora Bracaval), Reformer and first Superior General of the Angelic Sisters of St. Paul.”

The Supreme Pontiff also ordered that this decree be made public and recorded in the Acts of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints.

Today's Gospel reading reminds us of the two greatest commandments- to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves. These two are inseparable. God is love, and being true Christians means having love in our hearts, minds, and showing it through our actions
