Jeremiah 9
The Only Thing Worth Boasting About
Scripture:
"Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me." - (vv. 23-24)
Observation:
Jeremiah weeps over a people whose relationships have completely broken down โ neighbors deceive each other, tongues are used like weapons, and no one can be trusted (vv.4-6). God traces all of it back to one root: they do not truly know Him. Then comes one of the most clarifying statements in all of Scripture: wisdom, strength, and wealth are not what define a life. Knowing God is. Everything else is secondary.
Application:
- Our culture worships intelligence, power, and money. Social media amplifies all three. But God says none of these are worth boasting about. This is a daily, countercultural choice.
- Broken community is a spiritual symptom. When people cannot trust each other - in families, friendships, churches, workplaces - it is often a sign that genuine knowledge of God has faded. Knowing God produces integrity.
- Knowing God is not the same as knowing about God. It is a living, daily relationship. Ask yourself honestly: Do I actually know God, or do I know information about Him?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, strip away every false source of pride. I don't want to boast in what I have or what I can do. I want to know You โ deeply, truly, daily. Be my greatest treasure. Holy Spirit, continue to make me know Jesus. Amen.
DECLARATION:
I declare Jesus Christ Is Lord over my life and my family.
I declare that the Blood of Jesus covers me and my entire family.
