Happy Wednesday morning brothers and sisters
Jesus told them, "Come with me to a quiet place and rest." Mark 6:31
Prayer and fasting are also a way to stop all the stresses of our work and a time for fellowship with the Lord. Our digestive system also stops and relaxes. It is a great help not only to our physical body but also to our spiritual life.
Such activities also help our mind to rest from anxieties and mental fatigue. It is especially good to have fasting and prayer in an isolated and peaceful place. So you will be able to reflect on what is good, better and the best.
Same with Jesus, He took His disciples to a separate and peaceful place to rest. Regular rest periods are important to prevent burnout and discouragement. Jesus sought spiritual balance during His life on Earth, even in the face of overwhelming demands. When His disciples returned from a very difficult time teaching and healing others, "He said unto them, 'Come with Me to a quiet place, and rest' (Mark 6:31). But a large crowd followed them, so Jesus taught them and fed them with five loaves and two fish (vv. 32–44). When all was gone, Jesus "went up into a mountain to pray" (v. 46).
If our lives are purely work, then what we do becomes less and less effective. Jesus invites us to meet Him regularly in a quiet place to pray and fast. With it we can truly relax. In our lives of faith and service, rest through prayer and fasting is as important as work and ministry.
"Lord Jesus, thank You for Your example of prayer and fasting. Give us wisdom and determination to make these things our priority as we obey and follow You. Amen." God bless - Pr. Picar
