CYA began as an outreach to young people of the "Ligaya ng Panginoon" (Joy of the Lord) Community, a Catholic covenant community based in Metro Manila. This outreach was occasioned by the increase in number of university students from various schools who had become members of Ligaya. Their strong desire to share their Catholic faith with other students in their respective campuses paved the way fo

r informal get-togethers and faith-sharing sessions. In February of 1982, the "Student Outreach" formally adopted a name that would more appropriately embody its call, identity and mission: Christ's Youth in Action.
