The shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe has undergone great changes, from a small hermitage after her apparition to the grand Basilica we know today. ⛪️🙏

It was 50 years ago that the New Basilica of Guadalupe opened its doors to house the tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Its construction was not only a response to the sinking of the Old Basilica, but also to the desire for millions of pilgrims to continue visiting the Virgin of Guadalupe at Tepeyac.

Perhaps this is why so many hearts already feel drawn to her arrival: because deep down, we are all searching for comfort, protection, and the reminder that we are never alone.

BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER | Devotees flocked before the altar of Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in Fort Santiago during the Stations of the Cross on 2 April, 2026, Maundy Thursday.

Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine is located within the Reducto de San Francisco Javier. It was built in 1763 as a supporting defense of the Baluartillo de San Francisco Javier in Fort Santiago. The redoubt was destroyed during the Battle of Manila in 1945. It was restored in 1983 by the Intramuros Administration and the old store house was converted to a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
