INTERNATIONAL SHRINES IN THE PHILIPPINES

The Philippines is now home to two international shrines recognized by the Holy See.

The International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage was solemnly declared an international shrine on Jan. 26, 2024, becoming the first in the country to receive the distinction. More recently, the Holy See granted the National Shrine and Parish of St. Padre Pio in Sto. Tomas, Batangas the status of an international shrine, with its solemn declaration scheduled for Sept. 23, 2026, the feast of St. Padre Pio.

The designation of an international shrine is a recognition granted by the Holy See to places of pilgrimage that have particular significance for the universal Church and attract the faithful from different parts of the world. Beyond an honorary title, it underscores a shrine's mission of evangelization, spiritual formation, and pastoral care for pilgrims.

As Filipino Catholics continue to deepen their devotion through these sacred sites, these milestones highlight the Philippines' enduring role as a center of faith and pilgrimage in Asia.

Bakit "Papa" o "Pope" ang tawag ng mga Katoliko sa Pinuno ng Simbahan?

Madalas itanong ng iba kung bakit tinatawag ng mga Katoliko na Papa o Pope ang pinuno ng Simbahang Katoliko. May batayan ba ito sa Biblia?

Para sa Simbahang Katoliko, ang unang Santo Papa ay si San Pedro, na itinalaga ni Jesus bilang pinuno ng Kanyang Simbahan.

Sinabi ni Jesus kay Pedro:

"Ibibigay ko sa iyo ang mga susi ng kaharian ng langit..."
(Mateo 16:19)

Mahalaga ang simbolo ng susi sa Biblia. Ito ay tanda ng kapangyarihan at awtoridad na ipinagkakaloob ng Diyos sa isang katiwala o pinuno.

Makikita natin ang kahalintulad na larawan sa Lumang Tipan:

"Siya ang magiging ama ng mga taga-Jerusalem at ng mga taga-Juda."
(Isaias 22:21)

At sinabi rin:

"Ibibigay ko sa kanya ang susi ng sambahayan ni David..."
(Isaias 22:22)

Sa talatang ito, ang katiwala ng kaharian ni David ay binigyan ng susi bilang tanda ng kanyang awtoridad. Tinawag din siyang ama ng bayan dahil sa kanyang tungkulin na manguna at mangalaga.

Naniniwala ang mga Katoliko na ang pangyayaring ito sa Isaias ay larawan ng itinatag ni Jesus kay San Pedro. Kung paanong may katiwala sa kaharian ni David na may hawak ng susi, gayundin si Pedro ay binigyan ni Cristo ng mga susi ng Kaharian ng Langit upang pangunahan ang Simbahan.

Dahil dito, ang kahalili ni San Pedro ay tinatawag na Papa o Pope. Ang salitang "Pope" ay nagmula sa salitang Griyego na pappas, na nangangahulugang ama. Hindi ito nangangahulugang siya ang kapalit ng Diyos Ama, kundi siya ay kinikilalang espirituwal na ama ng mga mananampalataya at tagapaglingkod ng Simbahan.

Kaya para sa mga Katoliko, ang pagtawag sa Santo Papa bilang "Papa" ay may kaugnayan sa kanyang tungkulin bilang kahalili ni San Pedro, na pinagkatiwalaan ni Cristo ng natatanging awtoridad upang pangunahan at pangalagaan ang Kanyang Simbahan.

BAKIT MAPANGANIB ANG PO*******HY SA PUSO, ISIP AT ISPIRITU?

Sa pananaw ng Katolikong teolohiya, ang pornograpiya ay itinuturing na seryosong kasalanan dahil sinisira nito ang wastong pagtingin sa dignidad ng tao, seksuwalidad, at pag-ibig na itinatag ng Diyos. Hindi lamang ito nakaaapekto sa asal, kundi pati sa isip, puso, at espirituwal na buhay ng tao.

Bakit mapanganib ang pornograpiya sa isip at puso ng tao?

1. Binabago nito ang pagtingin sa tao bilang isang bagay

Sa halip na makita ang ibang tao bilang isang nilikhang may dignidad at larawan ng Diyos, tinuturuan ng pornograpiya ang isip na tingnan ang tao bilang kasangkapan lamang para sa pansariling kasiyahan.

Sinabi ni Jesus:
"Ang bawat tumitingin sa isang babae nang may pagnanasa ay nagkakasala na ng pangangalunya sa kanyang puso."
— Mateo 5:28

Ipinapakita nito na ang kasalanan ay hindi lamang sa pisikal na gawain kundi maging sa intensyon at pagnanasa ng puso.

2. Pinapalakas nito ang masasamang pagnanasa

Ang paulit-ulit na panonood ng pornograpiya ay maaaring magpalalim ng bisyo ng kalibugan at gawing mahirap ang pagpipigil sa sarili.

"Magsitakas kayo sa pakikiapid."
— 1 Corinto 6:18

3. Pinahihina nito ang kakayahang magmahal nang tunay

Ang tunay na pag-ibig ay naghahangad ng kabutihan ng kapwa. Ang pornograpiya ay nagtuturo ng paggamit sa tao para sa sariling kasiyahan, na kabaligtaran ng pag-ibig na itinuro ni Kristo.

Bakit mapanganib ito sa ispiritu?

1. Naghihiwalay ito sa tao sa Diyos
Ang kasalanan ay sumisira sa pakikipagkaibigan ng tao sa Diyos.

"Ang inyong mga kasamaan ang naghihiwalay sa inyo at sa inyong Diyos."
— Isaias 59:2

2. Ang katawan ay templo ng Espiritu Santo
Ayon kay San Pablo:
"Hindi ba ninyo nalalaman na ang inyong katawan ay templo ng Espiritu Santo?"
— 1 Corinto 6:19–20

Ang seksuwalidad ay kaloob ng Diyos na nakalaan sa pag-aasawa. Ang paggamit nito sa paraang taliwas sa layunin ng Diyos ay paglapastangan sa banal na kaloob na ito.

3. Nakahahadlang sa paglago sa kabanalan
Hinihikayat ng Kasulatan ang mga Kristiyano na mag-isip ng mga bagay na malinis at marangal.

"Anumang malinis, anumang kapuri-puri, iyon ang inyong isipin."
— Filipos 4:8

Ang pornograpiya ay kabaligtaran ng panawagang ito sa kadalisayan.

Turo ng Katekismo ng Simbahang Katolika

Ang pangunahing turo ay matatagpuan sa:

(CCC) 2354
"Po*******hy consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act... It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants..."

Sa Filipino, ang diwa nito ay:
• Nilalabag ng pornograpiya ang kalinisan (chastity).
• Binabaluktot nito ang kahulugan ng pagtatalik.
• Ginagawang bagay o produkto ang mga taong kasangkot.
• Malubhang sinasaktan ang dignidad ng mga kalahok at mga nanonood.

CCC 2337
Itinuturo ng Katekismo na ang kalinisan (chastity) ay:
"ang matagumpay na pagsasama ng seksuwalidad sa pagkatao."

Ang pornograpiya ay kabaligtaran nito dahil hinihiwalay nito ang seksuwalidad sa tunay na pag-ibig at pananagutan.

CCC 2514–2516
Tinutukoy rin ng Katekismo ang pangangailangang labanan ang "concupiscence" o magulong pagnanasa na bunga ng pagkahulog ng tao sa kasalanan. Ang pornograpiya ay nagpapalakas ng mga pagnanasang ito sa halip na tulungang mapagtagumpayan ang mga ito.

Ayon sa Katolikong teolohiya, mapanganib ang pornograpiya dahil:
1. Ginagawang bagay ang tao sa halip na taong may dignidad.
2. Pinapalakas ang kalibugan at makasariling pagnanasa.
3. Pinahihina ang kakayahang magmahal nang tunay.
4. Sumisira sa relasyon ng tao sa Diyos.
5. Lumalabag sa kabanalan ng katawan bilang templo ng Espiritu Santo.
6. Tuwirang kinokondena ng Katekismo bilang isang malubhang paglabag sa kalinisan at dignidad ng tao (CCC 2354).

PAANO BA MAIIWASAN ANG PO*******HY?

1. paglago sa kalinisan,
2. panalangin,
3. mga sakramento (lalo na ang Kumpisal at Eukaristiya),
4. at paghubog ng isip at puso ayon kay Kristo.

The Vatican has announced a global Rosary for peace on May 30, which will be led by Pope Leo XIV. The worldwide rosary is organized by the Dicastery for Evangelization. Pope Leo will begin the Live Rosary at 7 p.m. Rome time at the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens this Saturday. Simultaneously, Monsignor Walter R. Rossi, rector of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., will join the Pope in praying the Rosary at 1 p.m. ET. Major shrines that have joined the initiative are: the Shrine of the Mother of God (Zarvanytsia, Ukraine); the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Antipolo, Philippines); the Shrine of Our Lady of the Rosary (Fátima, Portugal); the Shrine of Our Lady Queen of Peace (Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina); the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes (Lourdes, France); the Shrine of St. Charbel Annaya (Byblos, Lebanon); and the Pontifical Shrine of the Holy House (Loreto, Italy). “All are invited to participate in this special moment of unity and prayer for peace throughout the world”, a statement from the Washington, D.C. CFD RIDERS CLUB: Balik Eskwela Outreach, Providing School Essentials

In the spirit of service and love for the young, The Catholic Faith Defenders - Luzon Riders Club (CFD-LRC) traveled all the way to the Disciplesheep Ministry Formation Center in Taytay, Rizal, for a meaningful outreach activity. With hearts full of joy and generosity, our group came together to share blessings and support the education of around 70 deserving elementary students under the care of Disciplesheep Ministry.

The program began with high energy and devotion—we lifted our voices in praise songs and danced together, led joyfully by our very own CFD-LRC brothers: Bro. Mike, Bro. Jhune, Bro. Manny, Bro.Arnel Bro Allan and Bro. Garryjoy. The atmosphere was filled with smiles, laughter, and warmth as everyone joined in the celebration, bridging hearts between volunteers and children.

Fun and excitement followed with lively games where every child who participated received cash prizes as a special treat, and everyone enjoyed simple yet delicious snacks shared together. The highlight of the day was the distribution of specially prepared school supply packs—filled with notebooks, intermediate papers, ball pens, pencils, sharpeners, erasers, and other essential learning materials. Each pack was a tangible gift of hope, equipping these young learners with the tools they need as they return to school and pursue their dreams.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Disciplesheep Ministry Administration for warmly welcoming us and giving us this precious opportunity to serve and be a blessing to their students. A special thank you also goes to Bro. Garryjoy, whose connection and effort made this meaningful collaboration possible.

This outreach would not have been a success without the kindness and dedication of all CFD-LRC members—thank you for giving your time, exerting effort, and sharing your financial support wholeheartedly. Your generosity made a big difference in the lives of these children.

Above all, we give all glory, honor, and thanks to our Almighty God, who guides us, strengthens us, and walks with us in every act of love and service. As we always say and believe: God is always good and great.
