WHAT IS Kabataang Katoliko?
Kabataang Katoliko is an online community comprised of youth (and not-so as well) mostly from the Philippines but with membership from other parts of the world as well. It started as a page established on September 14, 2014, Feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. The page was created as a response to a campaign of a terrorist group which uses
the social media to recruit members for their ill-spirited advocacies. After the page was published, an online page was then formed as well where members of the page discussed and share thoughts and insights on our Catholic faith, traditions, practices, doctrines and expressions. This also enables us to apply the latest trends and youth fads and languages into the expression of our faith without endangering our Catholic faith's content. Kabataang Katoliko is geared toward fait expressions through various means which can be understood by the youth generation of today. We have makeup transformation, dubsmash videos, selfies, groupies, video records, graphic edits, fansigns, chain posts, mentions-and-tags, check-like-share, CoC arts, minecrafts arts, pen and paper expressions, drawings, doodles, scribbles, original song compositions, original salawikain at kasabihan, photo edits, memes, jokes, and other stuffs which will help our Catholic faith be practiced, proclaimed, felt and experience in the world where most of the youth are having their strolls nowadays - social media. Campaigns online were launched to help us in propagating Catholic beliefs and to involve the youth and those who want to in our advocacies. For a year today, Kabataang KAtoliko has launched the following online campaigns:
1. , a campaign which aimed at bringing back the real meaning of Halloween and that is to focus on the Saints and not on satan.
2. is an online Christmas card which features family in the design as our way of promoting the importance of bond and family ties especially during Christ's birth.
3. I want to be a Saint is an advocacy which emphasizes that all of us can become friends of Christ and followers of God.
- is a counter-campaign to what same-sex marriage is advocating for.
4. TATAK KATOLIKO highlights the commendable Catholic Faith expressions of those who are in the influential fields such as television, movie, business, politics and others.
- with Lolo Kiko, is a selfie photo campaign with Pope Francis' standee prior to Papal Visit on January this year.
5. Papa Visit Updates was an effort of the page to give the latest movements and events during Pope's visit.
6. 4L 4 Lent is about making good habits and forming positive resolutions to live and practice during the Season of Lent.
7. Kasabihang Kabataang Katoliko features original lines, adage, quotes and words of wisdom related to Catholic Faith made by the members of the group.
8. Kantang Kabataang Katoliko showcases the original song compositions made by our members with Catholic and religious themes.
9. Rock en roll to the Lord captures the famous line of a known Filipino comedian but with a twist which leads us back to the very reason of our celebration and merriment - God.
10. SaintQuotes posts famous inspirational lines from the Saints which can serve as guidelines to live holy lives.
11. Saintify 2.0 is a revival of the campaign last year but added dubsmash video (with lines from famous movies about Saint) to the photo transformation which was already in last year's campaign. We had a collaboration with the Knights of the Altar - Philippines in the campaign entitled: Parokya Mo, Ipatrol Mo which features news and updates from the different parishes of our members. We also promoted thete8 tumbler's campaign on profile picture against the rainbow profile. Kabataang Katoliko is also part of a regular saturday radio program of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan - Social Communication's Ministry entitled Lingay ed Tawag. We have been blessed as well of being featured in various known media for some of our campaigns and advocacies. Some of those who noticed our efforts are the following: CBCP News, GMA-7, GMA-10, GMA News TV, Inquirer Canadian, Inquirer.net, Sunstar, The Splendor of the Church, philTV.com, immi.co, msn news online and Pangasinan Watch. Even the Atheists Republic featured our Saintify campaigns in their website. Together with the feature are television and radio interviews with the admin which were also instrumental in making our online community's presence be felt. We also have the guidance of some of our Catholic Shepherds and Catholic Faith Defenders as we always consult them regarding the content of our campaigns and posts. As we celebrate our first anniversary, we thank the Lord for the inspiration and for all the blessings He has allowed us to enjoy. We thank Him for the gift of friendship and unity we have established through His guidance. We also ask for His very heart to embrace us so that we can continue living our Catholic Faith in our age.
