In her message, President Cory described the canonization of the Philippines' first saint as God's "singular gift" for "our race and generations of Filipinos after us". She also emphasized that Lorenzo Ruiz "tells us that we too can try to respond as he did to the demands we face now in our own lives, in our own moment of history. He inspires us to do all that lies in us, relying finally on God’s strength and power in the struggle to have justice and love prevail in our society today."

She asked the Filipino nation to ask for her intercession as we "find the courage to give, under God, for the healing and making whole of our sadly divided land", and his "dedication, self-giving and courage may enter into our own lives, and that we may become, each in our small measure, the saints and heroes the challenge of our time calls us to be."

On October 18, 2022, the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of San Lorenzo Ruiz commemorates the 𝟑𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭 in Rome. Let us continue to be inspired by the life and virtue of our patron and ask for his intercession for all our prayers.

Our Triduum for the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary starts on September 5 until September 7 at 12:15 noon.

It may be unknown to some that the Mr. Fidel Valdez Ramos, the 12th President of the Philippines, is the first and only Protestant to be elected as the highest leader of a predominantly Roman Catholic country. But despite religious difference, FVR was very respectful of his countrymen's faith. This was manifested when the news of Binondo Church's elevation as minor basilica in honor of the first Filipino saint reached the Palace in 1992.

FVR was just 3 months into the presidency when he delivered his congratulatory message to the parish of Binondo for the historic proclamation of the centuries-old church as Minor Basilica of San Lorenzo Ruiz. He encouraged the faithful to see the life of the Philippines' protomartyr as a "glorious example of our people's extraordinary struggle to uphold truth and to seek justice in the face of overwhelming odds and tumultuous conditions". For him, the canonization of Lorenzo Ruiz in 1987 showed us "the path of righteousness and fortitude" as a way for all of us ordinary Filipinos to make extraordinary actions for our fellowmen and for God.

The elevation of Binondo Church as minor basilica had been an opportunity for FVR, the Protestant Philippine President, to honor his country's first saint as a hero, not just for the faith but for the country, as well.
