Devotion or Just for Fun?

In Cebu (in Visayas), participants, dancers, and devotees were instructed to carry the image of the Holy Child in the most dignified and respectful manner. The practice reflected the deep reverence and devotion traditionally associated with the celebration.

In contrast, during the 25th Grand Bambino Festival in Pasig City (Luzon), held today January 18, 2026, a group of men was observed carrying an adult male in a satirical display, mimicking the Holy Child. The act drew attention for its playful, if irreverent, tone.

These contrasting scenes highlight two distinct approaches to honoring the Holy Child: one rooted in solemn respect and religious devotion, and the other expressed through parody and entertainment

“Nawa ay makapagbigay linaw sa lahat na kailanman ay hindi pinahihintulutan ng Simbahan ang mga gawain na nagbubunga ng iskandalo sa ating pananampalataya.”

Ang Lakbayaw Festival ay ipinagdiriwang tuwing ikatlong Linggo ng Enero sa Tondo, Maynila para sa karangalan ng Batang Jesus, ang mahal na Santo Niño. Ang Lakbayaw ay mula sa dalawang salitang tagalog, LAKBAY at SAYAW, paglalakbay kasama ang Panginoong Jesus at pagsasayaw para sa Panginoong Jesus.

DID YOU KNOW? The Catholic Church has 3 types of water baptism.

1. Immersion 2. Infusion 3. Aspersion

All three methods use water and the invocation of the Holy Trinity. Only water can be used — no other substance. But immersion or infusion are preferred.

JUST IN: Isang halal na opisyal at senador ng Pilipinas, lumabag sa tagubilin ng Simbahan at nakapasok sa loob ng compound ng Basilika ng Cebu kahit siya ay nakagayak nang ipinagbabawal na kasuotang walang manggas (sleeveless) ngayong Sabado ika-10 ng Enero, 2026.

Matatandaan na noong October 1, 2024 naglabas ng mahigpit na tagubilin ang pamunuan ng Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu patungkol sa angkop na kasuotan sa loob ng compound ng basilika. Kabilang dito ang pag-iwas sa pagsusuot ng damit na walang manggas o sleeveless. Mula noon, tumalima ang lahat ng mga binyagang Katoliko, mga turista, at mga hindi Katolikong nais na makapasok sa loob ng compound ng basika sa tagubiling ito.

Kaugnay sa pagpasok ng nasabing senador, wala pang inilalabas na opisyal na pahayag ang pamunuan ng Basilika sa nasabing pangyayari.

Nakapasok na ang Andas ng Mahal na Poong Jesus Nazareno sa kanyang Basilika. Naisara na rin ang tarangkahan ng Simbahan, hudyat ng pagtatapos ng taunang Traslacion.

"Huwag kayong gagawa ng dios-diosang metal at sasamba sa mga ito."

Malinaw na malinaw ang utos na ito ng Dios (tagalog na yan ha) ngunit.. teka bakit Sya nagpagawa kay Moises ng tansong ahas kung ipinagbabawal Nya ang paggawa ng rebulto?

Simpleng Sagot : Ayaw ng Dios na magkaroon tayo ng ibang dios-diosang sinasamba bukod sa Kanya. Ang ituring ang isang rebulto o istatwa gawa man sa kahoy, bakal, semento, etc. bilang dios ay isa nang kasalanan. Ang tansong ahas ay hindi itinuring na dios-diosan ng mga Israelita kaya okay lang ito sa Dios.

PUNTO : Hindi ipinagbabawal ang gumawa ng imahen, larawan, o rebulto. Ang ipinagbabawal ay ang pagkakaroon ng sinasambang dios-diosan.

😇Lamang ang katolikong may alam. Maraming nagnais sirain ang Simbahang Katolika ngunit ni isa sa kanila walang nagtagumpay.

January 9 | Feast of the Black Nazarene

Prayer

Lord Jesus, we come to you to help us. Life is a constant struggle, and we now feel the pain of our journey. Bless us Jesus and teach us to listen, to all the events of or life, knowing that nothing happens by chance. Everything that happens has a reason. When we feel the pain of sickness, teach us to cope with loving surrender and to believe in the power of healing. When we experience emotional, financial and psychological brokenness, help us to rise up with belief that with God, nothing is impossible. We come to you today, to pray for healing to listen to our petitions ( say petitions…)

We pray to you and our mother Mary to answer our prayers. Amen

January 1 | Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The title “Mother of God” goes back to the third or fourth century, but the Greek term Theotokos (“The God-bearer”) was officially consecrated as Catholic doctrine at the Council of Ephesus in 431, thus becoming the first Marian dogma. At the end of the Council of Ephesus, crowds of people marched through the streets shouting: “Praised be the Theotokos!”

This Catholic doctrine is based on the doctrine of Incarnation, as expressed by St. Paul: “God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law” (Galatians 4:4).

In its chapter on Mary’s role in the Church, Vatican II’s Dogmatic Constitution “Lumen Gentium” (“Light of the People”) calls Mary “Mother of God” 12 times.

On this day the Catholic Church also celebrates the World Day of Peace, a tradition established by Pope Paul VI and confirmed by Pope John Paul II.

Alam mo ba?

Noong 1582, itinalaga ni Santo Papa Gregorio XIII ang January 1 bilang New Year's Day.

Ipinag-utos ng Simbahang Katolika sa pamumuno ng Mahal na Santo Papa Gregorio XIII noong 1582 na iwasto ang mga pagkakamali sa bilang ng mga araw at buwan sa Julian Calendar na ginagamit ng mga tao noon. Dahil dito, inilabas ng Simbahang Katolika ang Gregorian Calendar (ang kalendaryong ginagamit natin sa kasalukuyan). Kabilang sa pagbabago ay ang paglipat ng pagdiriwang ng bagong taon sa January 1 mula April 1.

Nawa may bago tayong natutunan bago matapos ang taong ito. Salamat sa Simbahang Katolika sa pagbibigay nito ng Gregorian Calendar na ginagamit natin ngayon.
