“God’s Threefold Promise to the Weary”**

**Opening Greeting & Introduction**
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, we reflect on three gentle yet powerful reminders from God to those who feel like giving up. These words are not mere encouragements—they are divine assurances rooted in Sacred Scripture and affirmed by the teaching of the Church.

When life’s burdens weigh heavily, when prayers seem unanswered, and when hope begins to fade, the Lord whispers:

---

# # # **1. “Hindi pa ako tapos sa’yo.” – Philippians 1:6**

*"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."*

God is not finished with you yet. What you see now is not the final chapter of your life. Even in silence and in trials, God is working.

The **Catechism** reminds us that God’s providence “guides all His creatures with wisdom and love” (CCC 302). This means that even when we don’t feel His presence, He is shaping our lives for His glory.

**Supporting verses:**

* Jeremiah 29:11 – *“For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”*
* Romans 8:28 – *“We know that in everything God works for good for those who love him, who are called according to his purpose.”*

**Reflection:** Never mistake God’s silence for absence. He is like a master sculptor—every strike of the chisel, though painful, is shaping you into a masterpiece.

---

# # # **2. “Ako ang kalakasan mo.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9**

*"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."*

When we reach the end of our strength, we discover the beginning of God’s power. Weakness is not a curse but an opportunity for grace to overflow.

The **Catechism** teaches that grace is “the free and undeserved help that God gives us” to respond to His call (CCC 1996). It’s not about what we can achieve on our own, but about what God can do in us and through us.

**Supporting verses:**

* Isaiah 40:29 – *“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.”*
* Psalm 46:1 – *“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”*

**Reflection:** When you feel you cannot go on, remember: God does not simply give you strength—He **is** your strength.

---

# # # **3. “Matatapos din ang hirap.” – Psalm 30:5**

*"Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning."*

No suffering lasts forever. In Christ, even the deepest wounds can be transformed into testimonies of His mercy.

The **Catechism** assures us that “the sufferings of the present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed” (CCC 1040, referencing Romans 8:18). Earthly trials are temporary; eternal joy is certain for those who persevere in faith.

**Supporting verses:**

* Revelation 21:4 – *“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore.”*
* 1 Peter 5:10 – *“After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace… will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”*

**Reflection:** Night does not last forever. The resurrection of Jesus is proof that beyond the cross lies the empty tomb, and beyond death lies eternal life.

---

**Conclusion & Call to Action**
My dear brothers and sisters, if today you feel weary or hopeless, cling to these promises:

1. God is not finished with you.
2. His grace is your strength.
3. Your trials will end, and joy will come.

Let us not only hold on to these truths but live them out—trusting in His plan, leaning on His grace, and looking forward with hope.

**Closing Prayer:**
*Lord, thank You for never giving up on us. Strengthen us in weakness, give us patience in trials, and fill our hearts with the joy that comes from trusting You. May we always remember that You are faithful to Your promises. Amen

"We Are Blessed to Be Catholic: Because Our God Is Just and Merciful"**

**(Why Purgatory Is a Sign of Divine Consideration)**

**Scripture Readings:**

* **2 Maccabees 12:44–46** – *“It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead…”*
* **1 Corinthians 3:13–15** – *“…he will be saved, but only as through fire.”*
* **Matthew 5:48** – *“Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”*
* **Revelation 21:27** – *“Nothing unclean shall enter \[heaven].”*
* **CCC References:** 1030–1032 (Doctrine on Purgatory)

# # # **I. Introduction: Count Your Blessings — Especially as a Catholic**

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
We often say “We are blessed” when we have food, shelter, work, or healing. But today, I invite you to consider something far deeper:

> **We are truly blessed to be Catholic — because our God is not only all-powerful, but deeply considerate, just, and merciful.**

One of the greatest signs of that consideration is the existence of **Purgatory** — a doctrine rejected by most non-Catholic religions, yet one that reflects God’s **perfect justice** and **unimaginable compassion**.

---

# # # **II. What Is Purgatory Really About?**

Some people think Purgatory is like a “second chance” or a “middle heaven.” No.
Purgatory is not about God being unsure.
Purgatory is about **God being fair**.

* **Purgatory** is for **those who die in God’s grace** but still need purification before entering heaven.
* It is a **gift of mercy**, a place of cleansing for those not yet fully perfected.

> As Scripture says: *“Nothing impure shall enter Heaven”* (Revelation 21:27).
> Yet, *“he will be saved, but only as through fire.”* (1 Corinthians 3:15)

If God were purely just, there would only be heaven or hell. But our God is also **merciful**.

---

# # # **III. Other Religions: Harsh, Unrealistic, or Incomplete**

Compare this to many other religions:

* Some teach **once you die, that’s it** — heaven or hell, no purification.
* Others believe in **instant perfection** just by saying a prayer or “accepting” a teaching.
* Still others teach **reincarnation**, endlessly repeating life as punishment or reward — a system with no true mercy, no personal relationship with God.

But the **Catholic understanding** is the most **realistic**, **loving**, and **reasonable**:

* It acknowledges that **many die not evil, but imperfect**.
* It affirms that **God wants us to be holy**, but He also **understands our weakness**.
* It gives hope: that *even if we die with imperfections*, God still reaches out with purifying fire — **not to punish**, but to **prepare us for glory**.

---

# # # **IV. Why Purgatory Proves God's Consideration**

Let’s be honest:
None of us is perfect when we die.

* We may have died in grace, but still with pride, selfishness, addictions, or wounds.
* We carry the scars of sin, even after confession.

**Would a loving God throw us directly into heaven unclean? Or cast us into hell for minor sins? No.**
Instead, He gives us the **gift of Purgatory** — because He **considers** the whole person:
Our struggles, our intentions, our growth, and our repentance.

That’s a **Father**, not just a Judge.

---

# # # **V. The Catholic Church: Where Mercy and Truth Meet**

Only the **Catholic Church** teaches the full truth about:

* **Sin** (and how it wounds the soul)
* **Confession** (and how grace restores the soul)
* **Sanctification** (how the soul is purified, in life and after death)

We are not left guessing what happens after death.
We are not given harsh, one-size-fits-all judgment.

> We are given **truth**, and we are given **hope**.

And that’s why we are so **blessed to be Catholic**.

---

# # # **VI. What Can We Do for the Souls in Purgatory?**

Our Church also teaches that **we can help the holy souls** through:

* **Prayers**, especially the **Holy Sacrifice of the Mass**
* **Indulgences**
* **Acts of charity and penance offered for their intention**

This is not only love in action — this is **family beyond the grave**.

Only in the Catholic faith do we find this **deep unity** of the **Church Militant (on earth)**, **Church Suffering (in purgatory)**, and **Church Triumphant (in heaven)**.

---

# # # **VII. Conclusion: Give Thanks for the Faith**

Today, as we reflect on the mercy of Purgatory, let us remember:

* We are not Catholic because we are perfect.
* We are Catholic because **God is perfect** — in justice, in mercy, in wisdom.

And He gives us a Church that **teaches the truth**, **offers the sacraments**, and **reminds us that Heaven is possible — even if we are still on the journey.**

Yes, *we are blessed to be Catholic.*

Let’s never take it for granted.

---

# # # **Closing Prayer:**

> **Lord God, thank You for the gift of the Catholic Church.**
> Thank You for Your perfect mercy, which understands our weakness.
> Thank You for Purgatory — not as punishment, but as preparation.
> Make us worthy of heaven, and never let us be separated from You.
> **Amen.*

Today is likely the 472nd Birth Anniversary of Archbishop Miguel De Benavides, O.P. He was born around the year 1552 in Palencia, Spain.

The name Miguel suggests that he may have been born on the feast of the Archangel Michael, September 29, because it has long been customary among Palentinos to name their children after the day's feast.

He was the first bishop of Nueva Segovia, now in Vigan, the third Bishop of Manila, and the founder of the University of Santo Tomas.

“To Restore All Things in Christ!”

Traditionally, this day is dedicated for the commemoration of a great saint named St. Pius X. He was known for his total dedication to prevent the smoke of Satan from entering the Church. One of his legacy during his papacy was the establishment of “Oath Against Modernism” through his motu proprio Sacrorum Antistitum.

This oath was required to “all clergy, pastors, confessors, preachers, religious superiors, and professors in philosophical-theological seminaries.” And later tolerated and allowed for the lay persons. On the last part of the oath, one should say the following “Finally, I declare that I am completely opposed to the error of the modernists who hold that there is nothing divine in sacred tradition; or what is far worse, say that there is, but in a pantheistic sense, with the result that there would remain nothing but this plain simple fact-one to be put on a par with the ordinary facts of history-the fact, namely, that a group of men by their own labor, skill, and talent have continued through subsequent ages a school begun by Christ and his apostles.” Unfortunately, nowadays, this oath has never been practiced.

True enough, St. Pius X is a brave defender of the Church against its enemies, especially that of modernism. Ergo, let us all imitate the example of St. Pius X in our daily life. Let us not be afraid to go against the world! Let us always choose God above worldly pleasures around us.

As a challenge to everyone, let us again practice reciting this Oath. Let us go in our churches and in front of the very presence of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the tabernacle, let us recite faithfully and willingly this oath.

Oath Against Modernism is not just simply an oath. But rather, it is our commitment to defend our Holy Mother Church from her enemies.

Sancte Pie Decime, Ora Pro Nobis!
