St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi (1181/1182–1226) was an Italian Catholic friar and founder of the Franciscan Order. Born into a wealthy family, he chose a life of simplicity, poverty, prayer, and service to the poor. He had a profound love for God’s creation and is remembered as a model of humility, peace, and charity. He is traditionally celebrated on October 4.

Nawa'y maging inspirasyon sa ating lahat ang kanyang matatag na pananampalataya, taos-pusong pagsisisi, at walang sawang pagmamahal sa Panginoon. Tulad ni Santa Maria Magdalena, nawa'y patuloy nating hanapin si Kristo sa ating buhay at buong tapang na ipahayag ang Kanyang Mabuting Balita.

Prayer to Saint Joseph the Worker

O glorious Saint Joseph,
model of all who are devoted to labor,
obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance
for the atonement of my many sins;

to work conscientiously,
putting devotion to duty before my inclinations;

to work with gratitude and joy,
considering it an honor to use and develop
the gifts I have received from God;

to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience,
without ever shrinking from weariness or difficulties;

to work above all with purity of intention
and detachment from self,
keeping unceasingly before my eyes
the hour of death and the account
which I must render of time ill spent,
talents unused, good undone,
and vain complacency in success,
so harmful to the work of God.

All for Jesus,
all through Mary,
all after your example,
O Patriarch Saint Joseph.
