22 August: Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
After having declared the dogma of the Assumption (last August 15), that βthe Immaculate Mother of Godβ¦ was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory,β then also, Pope Pius XII, established the feast of Mary's Queenship. He set the date for the octave (8th day) after the Solemnity of the Assumption, which is August 22 each year.
"It is important to note that the Queenship of Mary is not of the worldly kind. For Mary, to reign means to serve her Son and in him, all of humanity. She participates in the royalty of Christ because she is His mother. Let us pray:
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy,
Hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you do we cry, the children of Eve;
to you do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us;
and after this our exile
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
