IN: 1 Samuel 16:7
“People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Before coming to church, many people prepare their clothes carefully. They choose the best suit, dress, shoes, or style for worship. There is nothing wrong with looking neat and respectful before God.

But while people notice the outside, God looks deeper.

“God notices the condition of the heart before the color of the suit.”

A person may look holy on the outside but still carry pride, anger, jealousy, or hidden sin inside. God is not impressed by appearance alone. He desires sincerity, humility, and a clean heart.

True worship is not measured by what we wear.
It is measured by the condition of our spirit before God.

The question is not:

* “Did I dress well for church?”

The deeper question is:

* “Did I prepare my heart to meet God?”

God would rather see a humble heart in simple clothes than a proud heart in a beautiful suit.

🪞 Reflection:

* Did I prepare my heart as much as my appearance today?
* Am I more focused on looking spiritual than living spiritually?
* What does God truly see when He looks at my heart?

What a joyful and blessed celebration as our children completed this year’s VBX at Manila Central Church with the exciting theme: Cactusville!

From songs, Bible stories, games, memory verses, and fun-filled activities, our kids learned valuable lessons about God’s love, faith, courage, and friendship. Seeing their smiles, participation, and growing love for Jesus made this event truly meaningful.

Thank you to all the parents, teachers, volunteers, and church members who supported and helped make this VBX Graduation on May 23 a success. Most of all, we praise God for guiding every child throughout this journey. 🌵💚

May the lessons they learned continue to grow in their hearts wherever they go.

When Christians Make Themselves the Center

Are we truly living to glorify God—or secretly seeking attention for ourselves?

Bible Text:

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” — John 3:30

Christianity was never meant to revolve around human pride, recognition, or self-glory. Yet in today’s world, even faith can slowly become centered on self instead of Christ.

Sometimes people begin serving, preaching, singing, helping, or posting spiritual content with good intentions—but along the way, the desire for validation, praise, attention, or influence quietly enters the heart.

The danger is not always obvious.

A person may still mention God publicly while privately craving recognition from people more than approval from Him. Ministry becomes performance. Worship becomes appearance. Service becomes self-promotion.

And without noticing, Christ slowly stops being the center.

In the Bible, the Pharisees loved being seen by people. Jesus warned against practicing righteousness “to be seen by others” (Matthew 6:1). Their actions looked spiritual outwardly, but many of their hearts desired human praise more than genuine obedience to God.

The same temptation still exists today—even inside churches and ministries.

Social media, popularity, and recognition can easily feed pride if the heart is not guarded carefully. Sometimes people become more concerned about being noticed than about truly honoring God.

But true Christianity points away from self and toward Christ.

A genuine follower of Jesus understands that every talent, opportunity, and platform exists to glorify God—not to build personal importance.

The goal is not to make people impressed with us.
The goal is to help people see Jesus.

Because the moment self becomes the center, spiritual focus begins to drift away from God.

Reflection:

Ask yourself honestly:

If nobody praised me, noticed me, or applauded me, would I still serve God faithfully?

True faith does not seek the spotlight.
True faith seeks to glorify Christ even in quietness.

May our lives point people to Jesus—not to ourselves.

Because Christianity is strongest when Christ becomes greater and self becomes less.

Are You Growing in Church—or Just Attending?

Has your church attendance changed your heart—or only your weekly routine?

Bible Text:

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” — 2 Peter 3:18

Going to church regularly is good—but attendance alone does not guarantee spiritual growth.

A person can sit in church every Sabbath, listen to sermons for years, join ministries, and still remain spiritually immature inside. Why? Because growth does not happen simply by being present. Growth happens when the heart is surrendered and willing to change.

In the Bible, many people followed Jesus physically, but not everyone truly followed Him spiritually. Some listened to His teachings but refused to let His words transform their lives.

The same can happen today.

It is possible to become comfortable with church culture while slowly losing passion for prayer, Bible study, repentance, and obedience. Some know every church schedule but barely spend personal time with God.

Church was never meant to be only a place we attend. It is meant to help us grow closer to Christ.

Real spiritual growth can be seen in:

* a softer heart,
* stronger faith,
* deeper humility,
* greater love,
* more self-control,
* and a stronger desire to obey God even when it is difficult.

Growth is not about how long you have been in church.
It is about whether Christ is truly changing you.

Because at the end of the day, God is not only asking if you attended church—He is looking at whether your life is becoming more like Jesus.

Reflection:

Ask yourself honestly:

Am I becoming more spiritually mature—or simply maintaining a religious routine?

God does not want passive attendance.
He desires transformed lives.

Do not settle for simply occupying a seat in church while remaining spiritually unchanged.

Let every worship, every sermon, and every prayer lead you closer to Christ.

“The Danger of Following People More Than God”

Has your loyalty to people become stronger than your obedience to God?

Bible Text:
“We ought to obey God rather than men.” — Acts 5:29

God places leaders, mentors, pastors, and spiritual influences in our lives for guidance and encouragement. But the moment people begin taking the place that belongs only to God, spiritual danger begins.

Human beings are imperfect. Even the most respected leaders can fail, make mistakes, or disappoint others. That is why faith must never be built on personalities alone. A faith centered only on people can easily collapse when those people change, fall, or leave.

In the Bible, many followed Jesus only because of miracles, popularity, or personal expectations. But when His teachings became difficult, many turned away (John 6:66). Their faith was attached more to what they wanted from Jesus than to who He truly was.

The same danger exists today.

Sometimes people defend leaders more than truth. Some become emotionally attached to personalities while slowly neglecting prayer, Scripture, and personal obedience to God. Others blindly follow human opinions without examining whether those things truly align with God’s Word.

A healthy spiritual leader points people toward Christ—not toward themselves.

True leadership does not create dependence on personalities. It teaches people to seek God personally, obey His Word faithfully, and build their foundation on Christ alone.

Because people can influence you, but only God can save you.

When loyalty to people becomes greater than loyalty to God, discernment becomes weak. And when discernment becomes weak, compromise becomes easier.

This is why Scripture constantly reminds believers to test everything according to God’s truth—not according to popularity, influence, or emotional attachment.

Reflection:

Ask yourself honestly:

If a person I admire goes against God’s Word, would I still choose to obey God?

Respect leaders. Learn from them. Appreciate them.
But never place anyone above God.

People may inspire your faith, but your faith must remain rooted in Christ alone.

Because in the end, salvation is not found in human leaders—it is found only in God.
