BE IN THE KNOW | St. Faustina’s Warning About Hell through the Divine Mercy
Many people today struggle to believe in hell, thinking that God’s mercy alone means no soul could ever be lost. Yet in her spiritual diary, St. Faustina Kowalska wrote about a powerful vision that deeply moved her to pray for sinners and trust even more in God’s mercy.
She wrote:
“I, Sister Faustina, by the order of God, visited the abysses of hell so that I might tell souls about it and testify to its existence.” (Diary, 741)
According to her account, an angel guided her through this frightening vision. She described hell not merely as physical suffering, but above all as complete separation from God — the greatest sorrow a soul can experience.
St. Faustina spoke of:
* the loss of God’s presence,
* endless remorse of conscience,
* spiritual darkness and despair,
* hatred and blasphemy,
* and suffering that does not end.
One line from her diary especially stands out:
“Most of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there is a hell.”
Yet her message was never meant to spread fear without hope. After this experience, St. Faustina became even more compassionate toward sinners. She prayed more fervently for conversions and continually trusted in the mercy of Christ.
The message of Divine Mercy is clear: God’s mercy is infinite, but humanity is also called to repentance, faith, and conversion of heart.
“Jesus, I trust in You.” 🙏
