โIf my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their landโ (2 Chronicles 7:14).
Forty years ago on this day after 20 years of dictatorial ruling, Filipinos have regained democracy on the historic place of EDSA. Though the situation was frightful where tanks and heavy artilleries were directed towards those who have gathered at EDSA, the people have remained courageous and fought fearlessly without any violence taking place.
The people bravely knelt on military tanks, with their only defense being the rosary, praying to the Blessed Mother the โHail Maryโ, and seeking Godโs mercy and guidance towards a country that seeks to oust the evil of a selfish, corrupt, violent, and oppressive leader. The Filipinos have fought and showcased what โpeople powerโ is all about, and with this the country was freed, โfree at lastโ, the people shouted. The people proved on this day forty years ago that power belongs to us.
YFC-UPM honors the bravery of the Filipino people who have fought and have partaken in the peaceful revolution in EDSA, as well as to those who continuously fight towards justice, accountability to those in power, and for a better and just Philippines for all.
EDSA 1986 reminds us to never allow anyone to rule and abuse the power given to them by the people, and for us to always hold the line in keeping our freedom alive and cherished by all.
Our Lady Queen of Peace - Our Lady of EDSA, pray for us!
