Daily Devotions: Treatment of Leadership by the People Does Affect Their Heart - September 2, 2026

2 Corinthians 7:13 (NLT) – “We have been greatly encouraged by this. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was about the way all of you welcomed him and set his mind at ease.”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall reflects on the Apostle Paul’s relationship with the Church of Corinth, noting that no church in Biblical history disrespected Paul as much as they did. However, when they repented and responded with godly sorrow to his previous correction, Paul was deeply encouraged. He emphasizes that Christian leaders do not live in a bubble and are affected by how they are treated.

Pastor Sumrall explains that showing respect and kindness to assistant pastors, campus pastors, and district leaders (such as Titus) greatly impacts the hearts of senior leadership. When people soften their hearts and show respect instead of acting defensively or with prejudice, leaders are enabled to love and care for them even more deeply. He encourages believers to avoid being "porcupines" and to instead welcome spiritual correction with humility.

As Jesus trained the twelve to change the world, a lot of teaching took place, but some things can only be learned by doing. In the beginning of the nation, God had set up a system wherein the Levites ministered and devoted themselves fully to developing the people's walk with God. God then supported them with the tithe. For over 400 years, Israel had forsaken God's plan, and now the synagogue system was in place with rulers of the synagogue (like pastors) who worked secular jobs and ministered on weekends. Jesus called the twelve to leave the businesses and secular work and be fully committed to a ministry like the Levites of old. Because of all the bad examples of mixed ministry and business they grew up with, they now have to learn three great lessons that they had never seen ever lived out before them as they grew up. (Luke 9:1–6 NLT)

1. They learned to live by faith, and God would provide.
2. They learned to be content and not be social or economic climbers.
3. They learned they would not always be accepted, but God would always provide. God was their provision, not their popularity.

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NLT) – “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall shares a humorous personal memory about his grandfather's massive drawer of neckties to illustrate that many things we consider "new" are actually old concepts coming back into style. Looking at the cycles of seasons, wind, and water, he emphasizes Solomon's wisdom that history merely repeats itself.

Pastor Sumrall explains that this historical repetition applies directly to our spiritual walks and local churches, noting that even "new" false doctrines are often just old errors repackaged for a new generation. By studying scripture, church history, and the patterns of the early church, believers can gain cumulative knowledge that prepares them to navigate modern challenges successfully and stand firm in biblical truth.

Daily Devotions: False Comforters - August 31, 2026

Job 42:7 (NLT) – “After the Lord had finished speaking with Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: ‘I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me as my servant Job has.’”

In this episode of Daily Devotions, Pastor David Sumrall examines the powerful conclusion of the book of Job, highlighting God's anger toward the "false comforters" who poured condemnation and inaccurate representations on Job during his suffering. He reflects on how God required these friends to return to Job and seek his prayers in order to restore their standing and teach them respect.

Pastor Sumrall explains that real restoration in our lives often hinges on our willingness to forgive those who kicked us when we were down. Just as God restored Job’s fortunes twofold only after Job released bitterness and prayed for his friends, we are encouraged to pray for those who have mistreated us, opening the door for God to supernaturally restore everything that has been lost.
