“Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. - Matthew 28: 5-6
Today we reach the pinnacle of the liturgical calendar, the event which serves as the anchor of our Christian faith, today we celebrate Christ who has risen, who has triumphed over death and won for us the glory of salvation!
In our everyday lives, many of us may be going through what St. Mary Magdalene felt as she approached the tomb of Christ. The pain, sorrow, and sadness that she experienced after witnessing the death of Christ are feelings that we are all too familiar with as we face the challenges of our lives. However, as she entered the tomb with a heavy heart, she is greeted by an angel who proclaims:
“Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as He said.”
One can imagine the hope and joy that immediately filled the heart of Mary Magdalene upon hearing this good news.
Today, as we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord, let us also remember that in the midst of our struggles, in the midst of a fallen world, when all hope seems to be lost, Christ enters into our lives to help us rise from our sorrow and to give us the hope that can only come from seeing that the tomb is empty, for He is risen!
As we face new challenges, let us remember what the angel said. Do not be afraid!
“Easter does not eliminate the cross, but defeats it in the miraculous duel that changed our human history. Even our time, marked by so many crosses, invokes the dawn of Paschal hope.” - Pope Leo XIV
