After the postponement of the National Youth Convention (NYC) — the highest policy and decision-making body of the Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente — in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event will happen this year.

The much-anticipated gathering of some 150 IFI youth leaders from the dioceses here and abroad will carry the theme, “Pagpamatuod sa makasaysayanong kabilin, natibker iti pammati ti Diyos, pagpanglakaton sa tanan nga Kabuhatan (Affirming our heritage, steadfast in the faith, journeying with all Creation).”

It is scheduled for May 1-4, 2023, at the Vincentian Hills Seminary in Angono, Rizal.

See you there, Kabataang Aglipayano!

THE NATIONAL YOUTH EXECUTIVE COUNCIL’S STATEMENT ON THE RECENT INTIMIDATION OF REV. Marco Sulayao and MC Mace Sulayao.

“Like a roaring lion or a charging bear is a wicked ruler over a helpless people.”
(Proverbs 28:15)

On Sept. 6, Rev. Marco Sulayao of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente’s Diocese of Iloilo and his family were harassed by agents of the “national office.”

The priest, his wife and three kids were travelling in a private vehicle to their home in Estancia town coming from Sunday service at the IFI parish in Culasi, Ajuy town. They were picked off at a checkpoint in Batad town at around 3:30 p.m. Uniformed personnel approached to take Rev. Sulayao’s ID and vehicle registration without citing any violation. Afterwards, two men in civilian clothes handed him an envelope containing mobile numbers he had to contact, vaguely identifying themselves to be from the “national office.”

Rev. Sulayao is chairperson of the Panay formation of Promotion of Church People’s Response (PCPR), an ecumenical group that has advocated human dignity, social justice and lasting peace – hot-button issues that have put it in opposition to government policies and programs. PCPR and its leaders, the IFI priest included, have been baselessly red-tagged by government recently.

The Sept. 6 incident is the latest harassment of the priest. In Jan. 30, 2019, he was surveilled by police operatives in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, en route to a clergy meeting. He and his daughter were detained after attempting a Labor Day indignation caravan this year. The event also follows several reports nationwide of intimidation, arrests, even killings, targeting activists. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it has further cracked down on legitimate dissent, in many cases taking advantage of the presence of law enforcers, stricter border control and other community quarantine restrictions.

The National Youth Executive Council of the Youth of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente decries this unwelcome trend. We appeal to the government to dignify the nation by upholding our human rights, including the right to dissent.

We join the Sulayao household in prayer during this difficult time. We also express our solidarity with all our troubled siblings who experience vilification for defending God’s people and mounting well-meaning efforts towards justice and peace in the Philippines.

We continue to advocate for a medical solution to the pandemic and equitable programs to assist the people through one of the bleakest slowdowns in history. In all places, we invite our members to hear the cries of the most hard-pressed and participate in their deliverance the various ways we can.

Theme: “JOYFULLY PERSEVERING IN FAITHFUL DISCIPLESHIP AND BOLD WITNESS AMIDST PERSECUTION" [Mt. 5:11-12]

Mabuhay ka Iglesia Filipina!!! Mabuhay ka Simbahang Malaya!!!

LOGO MEANING:
✓ THE CROSS: Symbolizes the Disciples and the Believer of Christ. It also represents a person spreading his arms to protect the people who are persecuted.
✓ ICHTHUS: It can be observed in the logo with red body a yellow top tail and blue bottom tail. In Greek the first letter of the word, "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour" spell Ichthus, meaning "fish". When the early Christians were persecuted, they used the Ichtus as a secret sign to identify themselves to each other.
✓ RED SCARF: The red wave on the right of the logo is a red scarf tied up on the neck. This represents the bravery and perseverance of the IFI against persecution.

Today, 128 years ago, La Liga Filipina was organized in Tondo, Manila. It was the brainchild of José Rizal who thought that Filipinos should directly participate in the struggle for the improvement of their lives.

The group declined after Rizal’s exile. It was reorganized in April 1893 but was disbanded again in October. Some members, including Apolinario Mabini, organized themselves as the Cuerpo de Compromisarios which sent support to the reformist newspaper La Solidaridad for a few months.

The Declaration of Faith is the public confession of the faith that is professed by the Iglesia Filipina Independiente. It declares belief in the Triune God and the Catholic and Apostolic character of the Church. The Declaration of Faith, with the Articles of Religion, was established by the Church in the 1947 General Assembly.

The Holy Trinity

One God, true and living, of infinite power, wisdom and goodness; the Maker and Preserver of all things visible and invisible. And that in the unity of this Godhead there be three Persons, of one substance, power and eternity: the Father who is made of none, neither created nor begotten; the Son who is of the Father alone, not made nor created, but begotten, the Holy Ghost who is of the Father and the Son, neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding.

Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God

Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, the second Person of the Trinity, very and eternal God, of one substance with the Father, took man’s nature in the womb of the Blessed Virgin, after she had conceived by the Holy Ghost. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead, He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge both the living and the dead.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, Who proceedeth from the Father and the Son: Who with the Father and the Son together we worship and glorify.

One Catholic and Apostolic Church

The Church, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic, which is the Body of Christ, founded by Christ for the redemption and sanctification of mankind, and to which Church He gave power and authority to preach His Gospel to the whole world under the guidance of His Holy Spirit.
