May 29–30, 2026 – Pilgrimage & Recollection of the Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese of Palo (CLAP).
After the pilgrimage in honor of the VIII Centenary Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi, the CLAP officers and board members, led by Dr. Edna Ayaso and guided by Spiritual Director Rev. Fr. Paulino Cabahit Jr., were warmly welcomed for an overnight accomodation at the Mother of the Redeemer Parish, Cogon, Ormoc City. Rev. Fr. Butch Avelino awaited their arrival with heartfelt hospitality, preparing sumptuous food together with the kitchen in‑charge. The generosity of Brod. Ben Cabahug, Lay Representative of the Vicariate of Ormoc, and his wife ensured that every need was cared for.
On May 30, 2026, before breakfast and recollection, the group attended the Holy Eucharist presided by Fr. Butch Avelino. A memorable highlight was the picture‑taking at the new and beautiful altar of Our Lady of Fatima and Sto. Niño Image—a moment of joy and thanksgiving.The day continued with a Recollection led by Fr. Paul Cabahit Jr., who shared reflections on the life of St. Francis of Assisi, inspiring the laity to embrace simplicity, humility, and joyful service.

Reflection: This two‑day journey was a tapestry of prayer, fellowship, and hospitality:Eucharistic grace – The Mass with Fr. Butch grounded the recollection in Christ’s presence, reminding the laity of their mission rooted in Christ & St. Francis of Assisi inspiration – Fr. Paul’s reflections invited everyone to live the values of humility and fraternity in daily life.
Hospitality and service – The warm welcome of Fr. Butch, the kitchen staff, and the care of Brod. Ben Cabahug and his wife embodied the living Church, where service flows from love. The group met Ryll Sinadjan, a seminarian from the Holy Child Parish, Isabel, Leyte (son of Parish BEC Coordinator Teofilo Sinadjan)
Communal joy – Meals, fellowship, and the picture taking at the altar became sacred memories, weaving together faith and friendship.
Indeed, this pilgrimage and recollection were a wonderful experienced —a living testimony that the laity, when united in prayer and service, carry forward the Franciscan spirit into the heart of the Archdiocese.

The journey concluded at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel of the Capuchin Contemplative Sisters from Mexico and the Philippines, a fitting reminder of Franciscan universality and contemplative witness.Along the way, moments of fellowship were shared: lunch at Britney Spears Food, dinner at Highlands, and a warm pause for coffee at 88 Café in Ormoc City. These simple meals became part of the pilgrimage rhythm—nourishing both body and spirit, strengthening bonds of friendship and service.

This pilgrimage was not merely a physical journey but a spiritual walk with St. Francis of Assisi, whose transitus reminds us of the passage from earthly life to eternal communion with God. Dinner Fellowship with Tokens of Gratitude.
On May 28, 2026, after the official meeting with the President of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, Brod. Albert Loytero, and the Vice President for Visayas, Brod. Andy Predicala, the fellowship continued with a joyful dinner at Tia Tita’s Restaurant, Robinsons Marasbaras, Tacloban City. The evening was filled with warm conversations, laughter, and thanksgiving. As a gesture of appreciation and hospitality, tokens or pabalon were lovingly offered to Brod. Albert and Brod. Andy, symbolizing the PALO LAIKO heartfelt welcome and gratitude for their presence and leadership.🙏 This simple yet meaningful act highlighted the spirit of unity, generosity, and fellowship that defines the Laiko mission in the Archdiocese of Palo. ❤️🙏♥️

The Council of the Laity of the Archdiocese held a strategic planning session, presided by Dr. Edna Ayaso with Rev. Fr. Paulino Cabahit Jr. This followed a morning meeting with the President of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and the VP for Visayas. The council discussed priorities and action steps for the lay apostolate in the Archdiocese.

The session turned national insights into local direction. With Dr. Ayaso leading and Fr. Cabahit providing pastoral guidance, it showed strong lay-clergy co-responsibility. The planning was more than logistics — it was communal discernment on how PALO LAIKO can better live the Church’s mission today.

Andy Predicala, Vice President for Visayas.During the official visit, Brod. Albert presented the CBCP Statutes, the Resolution of the 24th National Laiko Biennial Convention, and the Vision and Mission of the national lay movement. The session was followed by a conversation in the Spirit, an open forum, and a moment where voices were humbly heard—a living witness of synodality in action.In his sharing, Brod. Andy expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that he felt humbly welcomed as VP for Visayas, even though he hails from Bicol. His words reflected the inclusivity and openness of the Archdiocese of Palo, embracing leaders beyond regional boundaries.

Reflection: This gathering was a milestone of communion between the national lay leadership and the local council. The presentation of the Statutes, Resolution, Vision, and Mission was not merely informational—it was a call to deeper participation in the life and mission of the Church.The open forum embodied the spirit of synodality: listening, discerning, and valuing every voice. It reminded the faithful that leadership is not about authority alone, but about humble service and shared responsibility.The warm reception of Brod. Andy highlighted the Archdiocese’s commitment to inclusivity, affirming that the mission of the laity transcends geography. On May 27, 2026, the Council of the Laity Archdiocese of Palo (CLAP) warmly welcomed Brod. Albert Loytero, President of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas, together with Brod. Andy Predicala, Vice President for Visayas. Their arrival was marked by fellowship and hospitality, as Dr. Edna Ayaso graciously facilitated a tour of the notable tourist spots in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte.The itinerary included visits to Gonzaga Haus, the Archbishop’s Residence, and the Sacred Heart Seminary. Each stop reflected both the cultural richness and the spiritual depth of the local Church, offering the guests a glimpse of the vibrant faith life of the community.
This visit was more than a simple tour—it was a gesture of communion and synodality. The presence of national Laiko leaders in Tacloban and Palo highlighted the unity between the local Church and the wider lay movement in the Philippines.The warm welcome extended by Dr. Edna Ayaso Rev. John Harold Katangkatang-Secretary of Archbishop John and Rev. Peter Peter Ayaso underscored the hospitality and openness that characterize the Archdiocese. Meeting at sacred places like the Archbishop’s residence and the seminary reminded everyone that leadership in the Church is rooted not only in administration but in spiritual fraternity and shared mission.Indeed, the journey of Brod. Albert and Brod. Silence is not weakness, nor is it surrender to evil; it is the quiet confidence that God sees, God knows, and God will act in His perfect time.

May Saint Sharbel inspire us to respond with prayer instead of anger, with patience instead of revenge, and with unwavering faith in God's justice.

From the official visit of the Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas (May 28) to the pilgrimage for the VIII Centenary Transitus of St. Francis of Assisi (May 29) & recollection. May 30, 2026 at 10AM, our journey led us to Sts. Peter and Paul Church.Here, we humbly prayed before the relic of St. Sharbel Makhlouf of Lebanon, asking his intercession for strength in our mission of communion and service. 🌿💒
